An older Foden from Davies of Buckenell.

Another old Foden pic of B & J Davies of Bucknell,Shropshire.

They don’t come much older than this pic of B & J Davies of Bucknell, seen on the timber many years ago.Note the block and tackle loading gear.

A well known name in transport history.

hi dave,Brilliant old photo of the Bulwark Albion tanker,my uncle worked for Bulwark in the 50s,and i remember him in an Albion Caledonion 8 wheel tanker on the milk to London, but was to young to go with him.I dont think the H+S would be very impressed to-day, with the above driver doing his dip on top!..chris

Hi Chris,
Different day and age. Roy Morgan has really let me scan some very interesting old pic’s of his. John ( Jet ) his brother lent me some good stuff,as other people have as well, but Roy has such a variety of pic’s which cover a wide range of transport.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya Dave! if I posted a photo of me ploughing with a grey fergie(not to be confused with Fergie47)in circa 1961 when I was 14 would this qualify for an award of some sort■■? (bear with me if you need proof I will have to persuade Anne to put the shot on!!!) if and when I will give you chapter and verse as to where it was taken)!!Cheers Dennis.PS the black and white shots you have posted of the Milk lorries at Cadbury’s are superb!!! much better to look at than Tippers!!!(in my humble opinion) Regards dennis.

I believe you Dennis, done a fair bit of driving Fergy T20’s myself, many years ago, being of the same vintage as yourself. Stick them on by all mean’s.
Cheers Dave.

Moving forward a few years, late 1920’s pic of B & J Davies Foden steam lorry moving a big piece of timber.

Dave the Renegade:

Definately Marlbrook this time.Leyland artic of Kem Transport driven by Roy Morgan.

If that tank was loaded to the “gunals” that Leyland would be on it’s knees------surely!!! Bewick.

That’s what they ran Dennis, before that they had Leyland’s like the one that you drove for Brady’s running to Birmingham or London.
Cheers Dave.

Bit of a mishap here,it’ one way of getting your log’s delivered.

hello dave,
nice shot of the steamer there along with the load,it beats me how they got it on the trailer. That trunk would supply enough 12x12s to last me for a long time.
regards graham.

Hi Graham,
It’s amazing how they managed to load all the heavy stuff years ago,it would be interesting to see a very early film of how it was done.
Went to Hereford Truck Show today, got a load of pic’s,but I have a load of Roy’s to post first.
Cheers Dave.

And while were on Dave-----see them wheels on that horse drawn timber waggon!! Our family friends of many years standing(Robert Taylor & Sons Ltd.Est.1851) still have all the equipment for “hooping” a cart wheel! The operation used to start at 3 AM and carry on all day until the last wheel was done! the wooden wheels were made in the wheelrights next door to the Smithy of three types of wood(Oak ,Ash & Elm)The only trouble now Dave is the only two guy’s left in the firm who could re-hoop a wheel are 82 & 85 respectivley so you have no chance of getting your “puncture” mended up this neck of the woods!!!

Dave the Renegade:

Another one,possibly Cadbury’s at Marlbrook.

Did you come on the push bike or the motor bike to take this shot Dave■■?

Hi Dennis,
My Great-Grandfather was a wheelright, not that I met hin,his two son’s were killed in the first world war, otherwise I may have met them. I remember as a boy,one or two farmers around here had converted drays for hauling bales at harfest time with wooden wheels and the iron hoops, also chock’s to put under the wheels when coming down a steep hill with a load on.
Cheers Dave.

Another early one from Roy’s collection of photo’s.

Hi Dave, fantastic photo, great to see all the pictures of B & J Davies, and you were quite right, the earlier picture does show our Scania LB111, drivn by Rhys Jones, we used to do quite a bit of work for B & Js, always enjoyable work, although I only did a few loads myself (it was usually Rhys who did the timber, but Derek did do a few loads with the F88,although he always prefered the livestock).
best regards Andrew.

Another of B & J Davies of Bucknell,Shropshire’s Steamer’s pulling a timber carriage with a big tree trunk onboard.

A bit more modern this one.Seen here is a French L A T I L timber tractor.
