Hi Dave , came through Newtown this weekend , bit of a bottle neck , when is the by-pass coming regards Keith .

Its supposed to start soon Keith but I don’t know anything more about it. Its not a place that I go very often. I’ve never really been keen on Newtown
I do work with an ex town councillor from there, who I shall ask when I see him.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks for that Dave as i say that place really is a bottleneck , regards Keith .

Hi All just read all your interesting facts about Swains of Stretton i have two Uncles that worked for Swains Tom and Doug Carter i also grew up in Church Stretton and lived close to their yard at Crossways the company was started by Richard " ■■■■ " Swain and pionered into Europe and International Haulage when His Son Glyn took over they expanded very quicly and become well known all over U.K and Eurpoe i left the area many years ago but always held on to my Swains passion sadly Tommy had diabetes and had to stop trucking but worked at their yard when they moved to Telford before his health went and sadly he passed away, Doug went on to work for Cadwallder Bros Oswestry, and Lloyds of Ludlow, Mick Pickford from Church Stretton, Swains however lost a big part of their fleet due to personal family reasons divorce i understand. Steve Swain is the eldest son of Glyn worked for the company then went out on his own, as far as i know Glyn had ERF dealership at Halfway House plus Swains of Stretton moved out to Minsterley/Pontesbury still hauling today with Mark Swain Glyn,s other son at the reins as ive satated cant be certain that all my info is totally correct as ive not been in the area for years i can say a lot is but its all third hand

Thanks for the info David. I was told that Swains and Lloyds of Ludlow had a family connection by tonyb70’s father-in-law a few weeks back. Always interesting to the various members of an old firm that are still operating.
Cheers Dave.

Dave Hi ,
Remember this one ? It was shot on the Hereford - Brecon road , but not quite sure of the correct location , cc.

Nice one cc.Ken Preece RIP usually drove that one himself. He called it ‘’ the hurdy gurdy ‘’. Sadly Ken died suddenly aged just 54 in 1997.
What a character, he ran 16 lorries and still drove full time, which possibly contributed to his heart attack.
Location is Staunton on Wye cc.
Cheer Dave.

Hi Keith,
Yes Ken Preece started and owned Kens Tipper Hire, with his wife Hazel at home manning the phone etc. Lee his Son has run the business along with his wife Karen since Ken passed away. Ken was a very popular bloke.
Cheers Dave.
