Hi, Dave,
Am I correct in guessing that Martin Conod would be Robin’s son?
Back in the day, I used to see one of their Marathons at the Kidderminster sugar factory delivering beet. The driver, John, was yet another country music fan who was a regular at my shows. He would run a Marathon until it broke down then simply grab another out of the yard and carry on until something happened to that one when the same thing would happen again!
Despite the mechanical shortcomings of Robin’s Marathons John always kept them looking quite smart, given that they were in and out of farms three times a day in the middle of winter.

Hi Casey,
Yes Martin is Robin Conod’s son. Robin Conod sadly passed away last year. They still have severl Marathons and also run several ERF’S. Two of their Marathons at Gaydon this year.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
No doubt this lot is roadworthy but it’s very unlikely anyone would buy these motors
other than for the show circuit or for pulling showmens gear about , the odd one is
maybe suitable as an off road shunter but for the most part they aren’t suitable for
modern day operation, I don’t think the lads would drive them on a permanent basis
and a lot of “young fellah’s” wouldn’t get them out of the yard. it is a vehicle sales
yard isn’t it? or is it an operators yard who just likes bangers ?.
thanks harry, long retired.

I think it’s a sales yard of sorts Harry, but he runs the old ERF units on low-loader work. They also pull a car transporter about.

They were actually from Hoole Chester and there trailer park was on River Lane Saltney and relocated in 1991 to Llay Wrexham.

I’m back Harry and Casey, been in Kent on holiday for a week. Conod’s don’t run any new kit. The Marathons were used until recently and possibly still are. The rest of their fleet are older ERF’s which they use mainly to haul vehicles and machinery around. Thanks to John Altitude for covering.
Cheers Dave.
