Hi twin flags,
I,m was in the same situation as you,

I work stupid hours for stupid wages ,
every week i get more work added on.

I,m salaried £300 per week ,
£241 take home.
(have C+E stuck driving sprinter  )

I feel so crap,
but i,m still here 3 months later.

I keep applying for work,
but i,ve decided to stick at the job,

I feel so stressed and upset with the world now,
i would hate to think how i would feel if i left the job, couldnt pay my mortgage
and my wife and baby couldnt get the weekly shop.

Thats why i am sticking with my rubish job,

Besides any new job will seem like a holiday

Hope it works out for you,
i just dont have the guts (or money)
to jack in my job.

Sometimes i wonder , if i,m doing the right thing staying.

well as of today i am back looking for a new job had a word with boss about maybe giving me more wages and he said that for the job i do and the hours i do i get paid enough so i told him that if you think that take home pay for class 1 work should only be 320 take home i dont think so as i have been doing over 56 hrs a week and dont get paid for overtime so he said i think we should part company oh and also reminded him about the state of the trucks and the repairs that needed doing to them his answer was i can only get the faults done when they are serious //////ie faults air leaks on trailer. broken mirrors doors that dont lock ,sun roof that dont open and that is only on just the artic ,not to mention the faults on the 17 toners that i also had to drive so if any one lookin for class 1 driver uk and european experiance let me know so back to job centre on monday or agencys :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Think yourself lucky…i’ve had 3 days work since xmas!!!

Breaker One-Nine:
Good point Conor.

I’ll go in to my Boss on monday and tell him that I want the same money that I was working for a year ago AND I want EVERYTHING on my lorry working as new.
That’s not to say that my boss is competing with a number of other small haulage firms in the area and money is genuinely tight as everyone is undercutting everyone else for work. But thats besides the point. Thats not my problem. I am entitled to my full wage and everything working on my lorry just as it did when it left the factory. How the hell am I supposed to work with a broken cupholder? FFS! Just not on!

How silly of me.

And I must go and hand myself in to the VOSA and confess that I have changed bulbs and fuses when on a 45 break. I am a criminal and must be punished! Shame on me.

I notice you’re from Ireland - the land of the dodgy driver where you’re more than willing to get paid for nowt and have to break the law so you can earn a liveable wage. Nice to see you even admitting to it. So what’s your record for doing Dublin/Larne to Spain then? 24hrs?

Breaker One-Nine:
Oh remind me never to lift a duster to wipe the dashboard when I’m on break. That is breaking the law and I’ll go to jail!

Guess what. I have never used a mode switch on my tacho EVER! Just leave it on break all the time. Been thru countless VOSA and police stops and nothing ever said about it. Even when all my charts were seized and sent for analysis…

What is the name of the company you work for? Obviously you think you’re above the law so we’ll test it shall we? Got the balls?

Talking of which, as it wasn’t the case 5 years ago, why are the wages around Hull the same as they were in 1999 and have been like that for the last 10 years?

As I said, they’re quick to plead poverty but very slow to share the wealth.

There’s a lot of you who have been willing to take the paycut who will find that you’re still on the same money 3 years from now because you’ve shown you’re happy to work for the same wages as 10 years ago. Sadly that also means that the rest of us coming back will be forced to work for the same money if we want to drive lorries. If that’s the case, I’ll be doing something else. You may not have any ambitions in life and are happy to plod along in poverty, Breaker One-Nine, but many of us have.

Simple don’t drive trucks and ■■■■ off if you are so much better than us

Been waiting 7 weeks for my first payment off the dole due to an admin ■■■■-up :imp: finally comes through, the princely sum of £74 a week :open_mouth: I’d rip the arm off anyone who would offer me £320 a week, regardless of the hours :unamused:

So, in essence Conor, what you are saying is ignore the recession and the job cuts and make sure your that your wage is what it should be and continues to increase on an annual basis in line with inflation?

We’ll all do that then.

Fight the power people! There is no recession! Its all a conspairacy! They’re lying to us!! Demand your rights!

Actually, if people did exactly as you said, there would be very little impact. The problem is that people have talked this recession into something worse than it needed to be.

And in the last recession, I don’t recall wages being cut even though it was far worse. However, as I said, in the 11 years of constant growth we’ve had, our wages have hardly risen whilst every other sector has increased their wages significantly.

Around here, HGV 1 wages have doubled over 17 years. Meanwhile, the wages for unskilled GRP Trimmers has quadrupled, likewise supermarket shelf stackers and till operatives. Hell, in my area you can sit at the till saying “Would you like fries with that?” for 50p less than Class 1 wages.

Lets put it another way. Your job hasn’t changed and your employer hasn’t dropped his rates so why should you have to drop your wages? If he’s got more wagons than he has work for, dropping your wages 50p or £1/hr isn’t going to make much of a dent.

Thats a good point. I must mention it to my friends who have lost their jobs and the firm down the road which is on a three day week. I’ll let them know that it’s all in our heads and really there is pots of money and loads of work everywhere. I’m going to tell my boss tomorrow I want another £100 a week and that there is no reason why he should cut my wages, even though all the compaines we pull for has reduced their rates that he gets from them.

For the companies looking stuff moved it is a buyers market. They can go to one firm and get a quote, tell them that ■■ is doing it for less and then get it for even less.

do you mind not simply making a sweeping statement like that, without knowing me you dont know how dodgy i am.
