Warning to potential stobart drivers

In one of the unfortunate episodes I saw, that Fiona bird who works for them was driving whilst looking at a ticket for the address to the Tresco thats store she was going to.
All on film.
Why is she still working there then?

Funny how the guys on the tv program don’t get the old tin tack for waving . On the 1 or 2 episodes I’ve seen I saw one driver come out with a new truck the spotters hadn’t seen and he was waving like the queen at a day at the races . Some how I don’t believe he got sacked for just waving

I think he was saying he got sacked for not waving mate

Just testing didn’t read properly

Good, glad to see a company taking action against someone that’s breaking the law

Who is at fault here? The smoker smoking in the cab when he knows the consequences or the spotter for taking the picture?

And who’s to say it wasn’t an e-cigarette.

I know a bloke (indeed I know him very well  ) that thought he’d been flashed by a front-facing Truvelo, after having just sparked up in a van.

He carried an e-■■■ all the while after that. Until he packed in

Totally agree, and I personally feel a lot safer because of their actions now that I know that anybody convicted of any speeding/tachograph/moving traffic violations will now be sacked immediately as they (the company) have now set a precedent.

On the other hand if it was me that was sacked for smoking in a company vehicle I would be keeping a sharp eye open for anyone picking up points for any offence and NOT getting sacked. That would be my cue to take them for constructive dismissal.

Indeed, all those taking pleasure from another driver apparently getting sacked for the horrendous crime of having a smoke in the cab while on his break… oh, to be whiter than white!! :unamused:

I think anything to do with Stobart is pathetic from the wannabe show biz drivers to the saddest of them all the spotters I would not mind if they where young kids but they look like a bunch of ban the bombers from the 70s and when one of the Tanker drivers with a load of diesel on board said he was driving a bomb on wheels I lost the will to live and switched off all these guys do is demean themselves ,if I had just done 15hours and one of these idiotic spotters tried to take a picture and talk about Stobart I would wave at him but it would be a baseball bat Idiots

the maoster,

The loophole here is, you can sack somebody immediately, on the spot, for any health and safety related offence. No notice, no disciplinary process, it’s gross dismissal without notice if the employer wishes. Smoking falls under health and safety in the workplace.

Points on licence etc technically don’t fall under health and safety, so that any/or any minor incidences can go down a disciplinary route instead.

I don’t agree with somebody being sacked over this btw, but unfortunately that’s the way it works.

I just hate people smoking in cabs the only exceptions are owner drivers and those who drive same lorry everyday, i hate the ash all over the clocks and the smell, it sticks to your hands, clothes, not to mention that second/third hand smoke is just as bad for your health as smoking.

Can anyone enlighten me on what pleasure do you get from smoking? all the answers I’ve heard don’t make any sense.

You can suspend somebody on the spot pending disciplinary action. Sacking somebody on the spot, although legal in certain circumstances, certainly isn’t legal “for any health and safety related offence”.

Also, what’s “gross dismissal”?

Um - If you are actually sacked then it’s not constructive dismissal…

It’s a bit like constructive dismissal, but without the constructive element and with a side order of grossness.

Have you ever heard about a psychoactive drug called nicotine? :open_mouth:

I think it’s when they sack 144 at once. :open_mouth:
