Thruxton:
Newly qualified and got offered 5x jobs in a matter of weeks., I am also in mid wales where work is even tighter…

Speed Cariers in Welshpool offered me work on class 1… The money was fair as well. The transport manager also seemed a decent chap as well…

So there is work for new people, but you have got to get out there

You on for speed or did you turn them down??

Was going to, but had another interview a couple of days later and stated this. I agreed with the TM to get back to them once I had that interview… I was going to opt for the Speed job and rang up to say let’s give it a go. The TM was not there and I left a message but did not get a reply. So I called back the following day. Still could not get through to the TM because he was in the yard… But was told that the job had now been taken. Only to find out that it hadn’t … But by this stage I had got another job offer that was closer to me.
Moral of the story is keep ringing back until you get the person on the phone that you want to talk to…
They have since re advertised…
So give them a call: 01938 558260 the TM is Frans Van Hoof

Transport Manager
Speed Welshpool
Buttington Quarry
Welshpool

Hope that helps

We’ve all been there when we first pass you just have to keep trying and take any crap job to get some experiance then eventually something good will come up keep trying don’t give up

IVE POSTED A FEW THREADS NOW ASKING FOR ADVICE AND IT HAS BEEN GOOD ADVICE BUT…

Last may i spent close to 2grand after the theory and hazard perception, medical and practical test and CPC.And now i have my class c licence but no job. Im on direct gov every night and ive got the indeed app on my phone constantly looking for jobs. Ive google mapped haulage firms in shropshire and rang LOADS of companys and they dont want to listen.

the closest ive got is “come on your day off and we’ll send you out with one of our drivers”…i go out the bloke im with say ive done great with a few nasty reverses involved…not crashed, not killed any1, not come close to causing any damage but…still all i get is “get some experience and come back and we’ll give you a shot”

ive posted on here done everything, rang everyone and still NOTHING.

So to people looking on this site …thinking “id love to be a trucker”…dont waste your money because no one wants to give in experienced drivers a chance…not even the agencies.

I’ve not read all 5 pages here and I don’t know your background but if you can’t get a job then you need to start on a 7.5tonner and prove your self first ,if your any good it won’t be long until your on a lorry .

Realistically that might work in an ideal world which sets a compulsory career progression across the industry. But it isn’t an ideal world and while someone is busy wasting their HGV licence driving what was ( rightly ) considered the domain of non HGV drivers.Someone else will be getting the break from day 1 on the ‘right’ type of job because they are just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and/or they know the right person or their face fits. The fact is driving a 7.5 tonner won’t cut it just as driving 24t-38t rigids never cut it for me in looking for decent class 2 work let alone artics.

The fact being that when I was lucky to find a reasonable class 1 job they couldn’t really care less what I’d driven previously. The question being am I up for the job being offered in the knowledge that if I wasn’t they could obviously sack me with no problem. At the end of the day that is all that matters and seperates the time wasters both employers and employees from the non time wasters. The former type of employers imposing bs pecking orders and moving ‘experience’ goal posts being the ones to avoid.

I don’t think you’ll get anything from Speed Welshpool. They are very hard to get a job there. You will need ADR, lots of experience on Parcel and Pallet experience in the SY9 and LD postcode area. As you have found out the office don’t answer to you about the job. They keep advertising all the time in the County Times and Shropshire Star newspapers. I’ve tried many times myself to get in, but no luck even though I should be the ideal candidate for the seven LGV driving jobs as I have all the experience and ADR in the parcel delivery service. They need to sort their company out soon as I keep hearing other staff leaving all the time. Some of their van drivers don’t seem to have knowledge of the delivery area and they always asking me for people home addresses locations.

Brakes Montgomery won’t be getting any more staff in as they have got their one driver that comes in the Spring/Summer season deliveries. They have staff there that don’t leave due to fact it is hard to get another driving job elsewhere in Mid-Wales and better pay and conditions. You won’t find many jobs advertised in Mid-Wales as there isn’t much about. It all about who you know! Try Temps on Call (Reliable agency) as I have recommended them to you before, speak to Chris. He should be able to help you out as currently he is looking for all classes of drivers at the moment.

You will won’t have much luck with the Tipper work as that is a tough industry to get in. You’ll need EPIC card and various experience before they’ll give you a chance. I got my EPIC card as well, but have the same problem as you have, Tipper employers are not interested, no jobs available even though there is quite a lot of quarries around here.

Have you tried all those companies based on the Craven Arms Industrial Estate? There were some jobs in Ludlow area as well. The trouble applying for jobs these days is that Employers take so long to get back to you - I’ve found that problem myself as well.

Keep trying son.I know its a ■■■■■.
But looking at some of the muppets that “profess” to be drivers where I work!!!
Had one in the other night that had ripped a near side step off.

He defected the truck saying the bleeper that warns you when your going to rip the step off was not working?

It was till he ripped the bloody step and bleeper unit off.
If you have any sense about you you will find a descent job.
Once they get sick of employing vegetables and paying out 500 quid in damage every time these loons climb into a cab.
A good driver is worth 50 bloody steering wheel attendants.

im greatful for all the advice guys.

Not having an EPIC card is not the end of the world. Earthline don’t recognise it and if you work for a muckshifting/recycling firm they probably wont be interested either.
Small hauliers wont bother unless they work for the big boys, and believe me there are small firms who wont have anything to do with moving stuff for them. Anyone who has to load out of Hansons at Kidlington will know what I mean, the prick there has banned many a driver for made up stuff just because they dared to complain about being messed about. I know because happily I’m one of them.

Ive been trying to register with agencies…i applied for lgv drivers they ain’t gettin back to me…also extra personnel and driver hire

When you say applied? Have you turned up in their doorstep ?

DH crap at getting back to you if you apply online, turn up and they actually do something

Nah just registered online

Not going to work that way, in their face afraid it needs to be

I got to disagree with you there. Ive never had a problem getting a job in mid wales or shrops. ive never had adr and dont need it on pallet network stuff as the amout tou carry is below the limits. If they aint advertising, find out the main man n call him. Get your name on his head so when something turns up before they got a chance to advertise hes thinking of you.
