When you undo the straps that hold sheet down tie them together they will come back over so much easier when you put sheet back on
sometimes machine drivers catch the bars and bend them which is a nightmare as it can cause the sides to come in and the sweep door gets jammed coming down you will have to take the bar out and straighten it i have straightened them by putting bar under trailers legs and winding them down it doesnt do a perfect job but can help straighten the bar a bit.
not sure if its on your trailer but at the back there could be a cover that drops down over your lights use it if you can it saves all the dust getting round your lights.
are you doing woodchip to belgium or just uk work
In the winter, when they forecast snow, if you load it in the afternoon & sheet it, you’ll have a lot of fun unsheeting it at the tip the next morning, (leave the sheet off until your ready to take it to the tip)
That one caught me out when I was 1st on the push out & I had to shovel the snow off before I could roll the sheet up. Lol.
Get your workshop to fasten a ratchet strap to a cross member under the front of the trailer ( ratchet one side & strap anchored on the other) then feed the strap under the hydraulic pipes & ratchet up until pipes are lifted clear of the catwalk . We run with pipes on all the time & have never had any problems . Alternatively you can use bungees to hold them up by wrapping them round the pipe then hooking them to the ladder . Hope this helps .
Another little tip , never ever put your PTO in before opening the back doors because we’ve had drivers who leave the switch for the floor in the on position , flick PTO in and go to open the doors only to be hit by the doors bursting open under immense pressure & ending up 70ft up the yard followed by a free ride in an ambulance & a few day in hospital . So be warned !!!
pretty obvious but tie rope on the sheet tie down straps to pull it back over when loaded, and depending what you are loading you can keep the rope on ‘your’ side to save chucking it over.

Anyway I took a couple of pics to show the longitudinal straps , etc
Good luck in the new venture

0Front view of kraker trailer , with cargo floorNot tipped it on its side yet lol
Lol…one did a few years ago @j5 island so don’t be the next.
Nooo slowly slowly catchy monkey it’s not a tipper
Thanks again for all the replys , some usefull info there .
I will update after my first load ( not sure when that is tho )
Hanson you asked if it was wood chip for Belgium or uk work , no international license (phew ) so uk work .
Initially it’s our own work just a load or two per week from our waste transfer site , plasterboard etc ,
Cheers Mike
Well it’s been a couple of months and it’s time for a little update
Well up to this week we had we only doing a couple of loads a week , our own plasterboard and wood chip deliveries to poultry farms for bedding or biomass fuel. The one farm I went to he fella set up a conveyor at the back and I was loading his spreader trailer thing and mini tractor . He went in the poultry sheds and spread the woodchip as bedding .
That was a good number took a couple of hours to discharge / spread the whole load . Paid by the hour and all that !
Anyway this past week it was Monday curtainsider to MasterCare newark , only a 2.5 hour wait lol
Tue , load of car panels to Vauxhall . Then back to yard collect walking floor and to Liverpool with scrap upvc window frames . Takes an age to tip there as you need to back onto the weighbridge , then go out turn round and blindside into the shed etc about 1.5 hours later I’m on the way to Preston .
Wed , load in Preston with frag (which turned out to be fragmented rubber / plastic ) , get loaded up onto the bridge and ten tonne under . get it pushed down and more on . Go to the office for paperwork to find out the delivery address is some place in Yorkshire
. Ok so there s nowt wrong with Yorkshire
but it supposed to be going to mid Wales
. Sorted that out , paperwork redone and I’m off .
Get to the tip a few hours later , had wheel spin on the steep hill up to the tip when the box changed down . ( thought to myself this is gonna be fun in the wet )
Anyway got that tipped no dramas and back to Preston for another load of the same .
Thursday , it was raining today , got half way up the hill towars the tip and spun out ! Had to back down , into manual first gear / lift axle up / diff lock in / traction control off , eventually we clawed our way up
Rest of Thursday was off to Kington Herefordshire and 3 deliveries of wood chip biomass to farms .
Friday , collected 20 tonnes of slate from a transport yard / farm near Newtown and took it to pinewood studios . It was to a new set they are building for the sequel to snow white , really quite interesting but dealing with set designing luvvies is a bit frustrating esp when you tell then you can’t get the truck anywhere where near where they need the stuff ! ( it’s not as if they didn’t have 360 machines and dumpers to shift it )
Anyway I needed to get it tipped Asap as I was reloading woodchip from didcot and they shut at 5 .
I think i satisfied the snow white luvvie , got my load tipped and got on the m40 heading north , rang the woodchip guy and said he would wait for me ( phew ) ,
Got my load on and back in the yard 9 pm , glad I saved a 10 hour drive for Friday !
Got that to tip at kronospan Monday .
So after a steady start to walking floor life it’s now full steam ahead !
Only really had one issue , my hydraulic pipes got caught on the edge of the catwalk and bent up the edge of the catwalk , so that will need looking at
Do you more experienced guys have that trouble or do you disconnect the pipes between tips , seems like Meither to me ?
Hope I’ve not bored you too much , cheers Mike
Bungee cord them up to the front of the trailer to stop them rubbing
I only ever disconnect mine when the trucks in for service Mike, just get some bungy to hold the pipes off the cat walk.
