Wages early 90s

In 1996 I was doing several 4 - 5 hour evenings a week + the odd day up Scotland for a local 2 truck O/D. I was charging him £6 an hour self employed, all hours. We were both happy at that.

He offered me £400 a week for 5 days, Scotland every day. Early starts but home by 5 every day. I was young then & valued my social life too much.

1990 was on £160 for 40 hrs plus over time and nights out.

Back In 1990 I went from a company that paid £150 a week with a night-out to one that paid £250 with 3/4 nights out…

Can’t go as far back as the 80’s but in the 90’s I made around £200-250 per week as a taxi driver for 5 nights x12hrs

2000 I was making £425 take home with a couple of nights out. More than my current job !!

1990 to 94 on for McKellar trucking doin Spain or Italian paid trip money. £400 to Milan Vicenza, bologna etc but an extra £50 for Rome. One a week though so did earn ya money!

In 1986 I walked off a building site on a Friday with £650 in my pocket for a weeks work as a Painter & Decorator, I remember it clearly 'cos it was my birfday & I blew the lot in Soho in one night.

WOW. That would be £1644.50 today

£3.20 PH for Cargo Express Birmingham. ■■■■■■ wage!

1988/9 first weeks wage £374 for six shifts, back when the weight limit was 38 ton. It was the year of the hurricane, collecting timber that had been blown down around the south east. And lets just say back then, I had a 310bhp Daf that was seriously underpowered for what it had on its back  I’m not saying I worked for a cowboy but he had a 10 gallon hat and spurs lol Learned alot working for him though.

I was doing OK in the early 90s as I was working a lot of weekends which paid up £8 an hour - and there were a lot of hours.

My first driving job in 1962 paid 33p an hour (6/8) and 50p (10 bob) a night out. That was good money then.

was still at school in 1990. in 1996 i was driving a parts van for a scania agent at £6/hr

Tarrman:
Back in 2000 I was on £3.20 an hour as a security guard. I now work in a warehouse on 3 times as much and I’m still no better off!

£3.20p/h for security - top money. In 1994 I worked security for awjile for the grand sum of £1.60p/h I used to take home £120 p/w so work out the hours for that

SmashedCrabFace:
I got 20p a week (cash in hand) and I used to blow the lot on a 20p mix.

I was only 5 in 1990.

I hope this helps.

Hee Hee… Brilliant!

Was still at school in the 90’s but my first job when I was 16 was a pot washer at a local pub/restaurant, I was on £3 per hr in 2002, in 2004 I was on £6.20ph + 10% shift allowance and £5 a day attendance allowance (which works out at £7.46ph as long as you were never late for work). In 2012 I’m on £11.34 an hr, including 33% shift allowance and the attendance allowance has been built into the hourly rate, if I was on the same shift it would now be £9.37ph. So a £1.89ph increase over 8 years good or not?
