volvo fl10s.....

These were taken at Asfordby’s haulage & storage’s yard melton mowbray. Ok so they’re FL7s, but whats a couple o BHP.

HI Gunnerheskey have you got any more pics of Asfordby Haulage lorries. I am interested in this company as i am building a model of Melton Mowbray station. Asforby lorries used to shift offal from the station to the warehouse, so i have been told.Any pics or other information would be appreciated. I am modeling the early 80s but info from then till now would be good.

Thanks in advance , Regards Wal.

Have you still got the FL10 8wheeler that did Truckfest a few years back? S-reg I think, had spotlights on the roof

This is the only one I have got, lovely truck to drive and it served us well. It got coupled to a Melton Engineering GP tank which could carry almost 25 tonne while still running at 38 tonne gross.

A mate of mine  , told me that while flat out, if you turned the key forward just short of the starter, all manner of bells would sound and miraculously the limiter would stop working for about 5 or 6 seconds. Repeated use of this party trick could see you hit 70 odd mph! :open_mouth:
Obviously I never tried this myself,

i remember hat trick too with my old g reg fl10 and pulling the hand throtle right out so i didnt have to keep my foot on the accelerator then wondering whyi wasnt slowing down coming up a slip road

My FL would go as fast as you wanted all you needed to do was turn the key back half a click, the ignition was turned of to some items incl the limiter some said this would do the alternator no good but i never had any probs in 3 years i had it
so there was no need to sit side by side on the m/way if you were overtaking and the other truck decided to speed up after putting the phone down!
there were a host of ways to speed up a volvo FL
moose

Christ, has he been buying his replacement wiper blades from the local smart car dealer?! And that pair of spotlights in front of the lower grille… Really!

…actually, whilst I’m on. Rainwater used to peas through the roof of my old chaps FL back in the day, did these ‘Globetrotters’ cure that, or did it just have another couple of feet run-up?!
