Wasn’t there a post a while ago (this year) about the “availability to use” ? Where probably ROG had written to, and received a pretty complete answer from a ranked copper.(Or was that about DCs in roadworks ?)

I remember seeing on police, camera, action on the tv a police traffic car at speed on a long left bend of a three lane motorway in the third lane chasing after something. Approaching the rear of a Reed Bordel (spelling) fridge truck he was in his blind spot because of the bend. The police man thought I can pass this truck no problem because he is unable to use the third lane, but oh no, the truck moved over to the lane he was in just as the police car was emerging from his blindspot behind his truck. Policeman totally wet himself as he was crushed up against the central barrier! Needless to say he wasn’t happy. So I guess if you ever do use the most right hand lane, legal or not, just ensure that your careful because other motorists might not be expecting it. Only time I’ve had to use it is obviously on two lane motorway and to go round a wide load. Same rules apply to any vehicle not capable of 70mph, so post vans limited to 70 are okay but not those towing a trailer behind a car, or a coach/minibus limited to 62, but an old coach without a limiter is allowed to use the right hand lane because they can do 70mph, unless due to the age of their vehicle it won’t reach more than 50mph like my old Bedford bus!
This was the roundabout at the end of the m180, which is a very deceptive junction. You go past the sign…
maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc … 42,0,1.68
and the trucker was obviously turning right so he got in the correct lane, this is where the accident happened on the left hand bend, the problem is that the roundabout is a mile from the sign, the sign is shown too early imo. Anyways the copper was a [zb] and totally deserved it, approaching the truck in his blind spot at over 100mph ? ofcourse the trucker never saw him.
What about the m6 northbound at the m6/m6toll join, are you allowed to shoot off in lane 3 which becomes a single lane to rejoin lane one of the m6 toll which then changes back to the m6

No, that is the outside lane
