Urban Artics & Rigids

How wrong does this look

had this 33ft

montracon trailer new in 2004

Couple more babies

A few weeks back I saw a double deck urban artic run by AF Blakemore/Spar on the M6. It was quite a short trailer yet very tall.

Does anyone have any photos of them please?

I’ve had a look online but not seen anything yet…

A friend of mine has been telling me about these Spar trailers. He reckons they are 16 foot high but only 15 (fifteen) feet long? Surely they must be longer than that!? I’ve not seen one myself.

I saw something similar in poundland livery. Looked really unstable but I’m sure we’d know about it if one had gone over.

Tradeteam Enfield a few weeks ago

Hi Everyone, a real favourite of mine…

Urban artics, Mainly Brewery trucks but there are others out there.

Especially the Excel Tradeteam ones from the 90’s with the grey trailers, they had a depot by me and the K reg FL6’s used to be lined up !

Anything thats urban , , , , stick it up on here please.

Also can you get any urban rigids ? ? ?

I have put a few photos that i have from a depot visit a year ago. Its the Banks Brewery Yard, Round the corner Excel Tradteam (Grey FL6 Urban’s) where based, they parked all there wagons and trailers in Mitchells & Butlers, Springfield Brewery (BASS), sadly this has now been demolished !

Cheers Guys

Below : Banks old livery from the 1990’s, they had loads of these FL6’s in this livery, sadly either scrapped now or on yard duties.

My father was the maintaince contract holder for carlsberg from 1999 - 2008. urban artics have around for years ive actually seen as far back as a G plate volvo fl6-14, carlsberg ran a great number of these from alloa mainly 9 s regs. 2 x reg, an 03, an 04, and 2 54’s and a iveco but cant remember the year think it was an 05. Armstrong of longtown had 4 03 plate fodens as well on the contract. (highlands, aberdeen & inverness)

All had a 6 speed box no splitter or crawler and had 220bhp engines

Kilmours also had an r reg man sleeper & 2 k plate volvos running out as well

maclays brewery ran 4 volvos as well X,T & R plates before being bought over my belhaven which now has 6 ategos running i believe

we ran two both ex hays distrabution which were 18 tonners which pulled fridges for petrol station resupply etc one was an R reg volvo fl6-18 which had a splitter gearbox but was changed to a 6 speed and a daf 55 on an l plate

carlsberg now 6-7 MANs pulling green or blue trailers (carlsberg always were green up here until the sent trailers up from england that were blue (tetleys))

you also get urban rigids as well but i aint seen a photo the normally are 6x2 rigids with smaller wheels on the back

Great Stuff hutchie.

I remember Hays, ive got a few photo somewhere, they ran all sorts of outfits, they also had some Volvo FM7’s With 1 axle trailers.

Ive seen some of the carlsberg stuff about, there all the Man TG-S urbans. But they did have some old iveco’s around 2000/2003.

Yeh the FM7’s i believe run at about 23 tonnes, before the fodens we had one doing the isle of skye/oban it was armstrongs of longtowns again, it was originally for pulling a milk tanker,

the MANS we have up here are 07/08 plates i believe all running with refurbed trailers originally from england hence why they are all LER numbers now now ALR or ALT as they used to be!

as for ivecos we only ever had the 3 rigids (got run into the ground and scrapped) the 7.5 tonner (quickest motor in the fleet haha she could shift. 04 plate) and George calders one which was a shortened tipper converted by iveco and a shed load of other manufactors for the job! she had a full height eurocargo sleeper which is unusual for an urban artic.

Armstrongs, ive got a few photos of them, also some other dairy trucks that look urban to me, armstrongs are stull running a foden day cabbed 4 x 2 on farm collections.

I think the mans are about that. there all DK57 “”" or DK58 “”", DHL have a load of them on brewery work, same config as the Carlsbergs.

Ive noticed the carlsberg depot by me has some Day Cabbed Scanias (P CABS) there on the tanks and curtainsiders mate.

My uncle used to drive a eurocargo 4 w 7.5 tonner, a boy it was nippy, even fully loaded with parcels it still went like rocket. And a full heigh sleeper on a urban, now id love to see that anyday of the week !

Ive attached a photo from what ive found of armstrongs, was this the one or smoething smilar, i think the truck below has been re-sprayed once or twice from green livery to white, not so sure.

Yup thats the ones, they are all LER numbers up here cause they came up from the english batch, alloa used to have there own fleet numbers, but they dont really have a yard as such now, trade team/DHL and carlsberg have always ran simular trucks for some reason

yeh they are normal artics not urbans just like what argos run etc

yeh georges eurocargo was some bit of kit! no bunk tho it had been removed for storage! it was mainly so they could hang up there wet gear etc only problem was it was not dealer but and it had about 40 different suppliers for parts!

Neil Burns old unit! that was the isle of skye/oban, nope it aint been painted it was always white, its run on deisel/methane there are two tanks on the site, it was one of the first two trucks to try it! she got taken off and replaced with a rigid driven by iain mitchell

I did a day on agency once driving an artic with single axle steering trailer, think it was about 20ft long, god you could get it anywhere, was a lot of fun driving it, the deliverys were zb though :stuck_out_tongue:

Only came across the urban units 6 months ago and now have an ex carlsberg 02 plate fl6 220artic which ive mounted a gritter on to. it works a treat and will be looking for a couple more for next year. anyone know a good source?

thomas hardy mate sometimes have them we bought an 18 one of them and it was some tool!
