hazards on when driving around RDCs
why for gods sake why

Regarding motorbikes some just have very bright low beams.I doubt if any riders would put their high beam on all the time but you get muppets in all types of vehicles.
Just my opinion being a biker as well.
Plus 'bikes lights are more effected by the bikes attitude on the road. I seem to remember when I was a bike mentalist that cars would sometimes flash me as I was coming out of a corner or roundabout. Why? Coz the acceleration meant the back was squuated down and the forks were at full extension so the dipped beams were pointing at their faces. There are bikers who can point their lights at the tree-tops for extended periods…

Why do some trucks eqipped with orange flashing lights that are only meant to be used when necessary use them all the time?
On several ocassions now I have seen bulk tippers and low loaders carrying no load with their flashing lights on.
These people are as bad as the ones that use fog lamps unnecessarily causing a major distraction especially in the dark.
About time these unprofessionals were dealt with!
this is a new thing what some trucks drivers have started to do ,when you flash your headlights the beacons come on at the same time its a bit of a craze i do find it suprising that such a small thing bothers other drivers
Low loaders with them on at night when it is raining should be banned
also whats with the beacons wired to the high beam,ow sorry i did’nt see your 16 spotlights its a good job you have the beacons wired to them so i noticed you.
andy.
just finished wiring my beacons to my 16 spotlights bout half hour ago, please wave on monday so as i can use them…

Beacons coming on for a blink or three when you flash your lights isn’t a problem.
The problem is that orange beacons are intended to attract the attention of other drivers, to warn them that there is ‘something unusual about this vehicle’.
It could be a slow moving farm tractor, it could be a protruding load, it could be a tipper about to slow down in roadworks to pull onto site, it could be a rubbish wagon stopping frequently to collect rubbish. Whatever the reason might be, the driver wants other road users to pay a bit of extra attention to their vehicle, because there is a valid reason.
If every tom, harry or ■■■■ is using orange beacons for no reason other than ‘look at me, I’m a poser’, the rest of us soon get fed up with seeing orange flashy lights and stop paying attention to them. We see the lights and write them off as yet another ‘look at me, I’m a poser’ set.
Eventually we come across a vehicle with orange lights that are there for a good reason, but by then we’ve become so used to ‘look at me’ lights that we don’t realise this particular set are for a good reason till it’s too late.
You might simply think ‘Oh dear, I forgot to turn them off, again, what a shame, never mind’.
We see, yet another tom, harry or ■■■■ with orange beacons going for no good reason, yet another set of ‘look at me, I’m a poser’ lights.
People who work at the sides of our Motorways (tyre fitters, recovery operators etc) now want rear facing red beacons to augment the orange ones they already have, the same as emergency services do. (They can’t legally use them at the moment).
Why?
Because most of the rest of us don’t pay any attention to orange beacons, we’ve become switched off to them due to the number of ‘look at me, I’m a poser’ beacons we see.

I must admit yes I am small but sometimes I do forget they are on so if you see a Hanson Veh with them on please tell me…But what really gets on my ■■■■ is Motorbikes with their main beam on FERKIN MUPPETS…You are blinding me so I can’t see you
See when drivers stop having half arsed looks in the mirror before changing lane and almost killing me when I’m filtering on a busy motorway, then and only then I’ll think about switching the full beam back off. At least the tossers are more likely to spot me coming towards them if there’s a blinding light approaching them

Where in my post does it give the impression I’m pish at riding?
There’s not a great deal I can do if a driver decides to pull out in front of me. I don’t scream between cars at break neck speeds like some riders, I ride at a speed where I like to think I can stop fast enough if someone decides not to use their mirrors when changing lanes.
The amount of people I see moving to the opposite side of their lane when all the lights are on is greatly increased so I feel it has the desired effect. I have also passed many a Police 5 series on the motorway when doing this and they’ve made no attempt what so ever to come after me.
The bit where you quite happily say you need to leave your headlight on high beam, so that you are sure you can be seen.
Yes I do ride a bike. A 1980 CB900.
Yes I do drive a car. A Pug’ 406.
Yes I do drive a truck. A Merc’ 2648 artic.

How does that make me pish?
Also, can anyone explain why 4Way hazard lights must be used in a DC?
1-just ONE valid reason why?
Pure OH@S insanity, and I dare anyone to debate why they are compulsory.
Some of the quarries i go into insist on having beacons on and then i sometimes forget to turn them off.On a point about rear fogs which, if i use them, which is rare, i will turn them off if someone comes up behind me.But how come motor bikes and mopeds dont have them and when it is foggy i can see them perfectly well.
The comments about bikers, I think the regulations that say all bikes must have the lights on during the day is ill thought. When you brake or accelerate the suspension it looks like you are giving someone a flash to pull out. I think the day running lights should be blue like a police car
When was a ´bike courier (a few years back now, and way before I even passed my car test let alone my HGV), I basically assumed I was invisible to the other idiots on the road. I had about 1,000 times more trust in truckers than car drivers though.
