Unbelievable

i have read this thread very carefully, and quite bluntly the whole system of delivering to markets is corrupt.surely this is a case for the police, this is how the mafia works, pay up or tough [zb].i cant believe that people are condoning what is a corrupt & illegal system.

If it needs dots, it’s not allowed. L.

Covent Garden always has been corrupt.

When it really was at Covent Garden before it moved to Nine Elms it worked hand in hand with the scams running at Fleet Street; ie sign in for a nightshift at The Times and walk round the corner to the Garden and do a few hours there for cash. Double bubble.

These days your forkie might well be a Fireman on his 4 off, another popular side line.

I am at a loss to understand why the police or anyone else should be brought into this

A typical market delivery might consist of 26 pallets.

4 pallets of cucumbers and 4 pallets of tomatoes for customer 1

Customer 2 wants 2 pallets of lettuce but he doesnt start until 5am

Customer 3 takes the rest and can tip you anytime.

If I am in a market at 1am and I can get all my drops off by 1.30 it must be worth a fiver.

Some customers use to leave the keys for the forklift or give you a spare key for the lockup.

Either way it gets you tipped and either in bed or home earlier :stuck_out_tongue:

In my experience markets are run by everyone to help everyone, maybe the RDC should look at the operating practice

Bear if thats what you want to be involved in, feel free, I WILL stick to Tescos etc,I cannot be bothered with this carry on.

You can tell who are ‘market men’ on here and who are ‘chauffeurs’

I would rather be a chauffer, than be a “real” driver anyday.

Who in theire right mind wants to be involved in all that?

One thing that annoys me when reading any threads on trucknet is how, if you disagree with something or somebody, it is insinuated that you are in some way not a “proper” driver, that you are in some way playing at it perhaps.

I have done all kinds of driving jobs and I have always done the best I can, as I suspect most drivers on here do, but there are certain jobs I would rather be unemployed than do, Tilts for one, they are dangerous and pointless and I would rather be pulling a fridge, And markets are not for me, I think the whole set up is ridiculous, but I dont insinuate the people doing them are somehow not proper drivers.

As the hippys used to say “its whatever lights your candle man”.

I go to work to earn as much as I can, for as little effort as possible, this does not include getting up at 02.00 to start work at 03.00, putting myself in any danger whatsoever, parting with money I cant get back, and the truck can rot down to its hub caps before I will, I wont fiddle tachos, if the trucks broke it does not go unless it is fixed, I dont change tyres, etc.etc. if these and other things make me less of a driver, TOUGH, people on here have said they wont do things I will, unload myself at Nettos for instance, but I dont say they are not “PROPER” drivers, each to his own.

I entirely agree.

It’s like saying you can’t be a chimney sweep unless you started at the age of 5 by climbing up them.
