Trucknet Twighlight zone

I missed the post with the copper, but I think it’s a bit of a missed opportunity, if the guy ended up leaving because of abuse from drivers, it’s hardly going to sway his opinion of lorry drivers in a good way is it.

The thread with the copper was an embarrassing read, make no mistake. While the point stands that, as a police officer, he is sticking his head above the parapet by joining a forum for lorry drivers, some of what was directed at him crossed the line by a fair margin. Sadly it was very predictable: It was like watching a pack of teenage lads trying to prove themselves like the immature idiots that they are, except it was in fact grown men who are in charge of 44 tonnes acting in that manner.

The trucking industry has always attracted more than its share of bell-ends. I don’t see why anyone would expect a trucking forum to be any different.

If you ignored the deliberate personal abuse part of it I think some valid points were put to him, he was selective what he answered, and finished off (some would say flounced off) with official Police line rhetoric, which was a bit weak I reckon.
He could have maybe put across a bit of empathy at least, and try and assure us that truck crime was in at least the top 3 priorities…he didn’t.
My gripe was he was so concerned about a bloody bill board :unamused: … when the trucks parked either side of it could have had their fuel half inched, but that was deemed as not as important.

Another fair (and polite) point you’ve made here IMHO Rob.

I’m guessing a bit here, but… if folks had been more polite and engaging, then maybe he’d have taken part even if it went a bit off his topic.

:bulb: The boot-boy mob put paid to any chance of that though. :frowning:

I concur an opportunity missed, part of me feels the sarge lacked the intestinal fortitude to proceed or perhaps personal contact could have been made with posters going overboard, now I see the mod team has been overstretched I understand.

The point has been made about the pack mentality already but ironically Police and Truckers share a common bond in that everyone hates us.

I will say the fact that any aggressive posts where allowed to stand was a good thing, cant have honest conversations if treading on eggshells. As a wise man once said ‘I may not like what you have to say but I will fight for your right to be innapropriate’…
