The ‘original’ (1987) series was pretty good, and fairly credible to boot, considering the amount of ‘small operator’s’ around at the time that were in danger of going to the wall and that Series represented them well enough and the stories were beliveable (in most cases!). I have the original 8 episodes on DVD and they are good quality (I may be able to source further copies for GENUINE archive TV fans!■■).
The 2013 Series (imo) was more ‘light Entertainment’ than the original (and that’s saying something!), though the Original did have a ‘harder edged’ central message in all the episodes. The BBC would have been far better to have made a second and even third Series of the original in 1988 and 1989 repectively and then took a long hard, look at the industry today instead of (seemingly) trying to copy the original with the same 80’s kitsch and cliche’s that worked then - but not now!!
