iv lived near to the worlds fattest man for a while and iv seen 1st hand how a gastric band works, hes lost quite a bit of wieght but was left with excessive skin folds that the nhs rightfully in my opinion refused to remove for him the result is that he is now deppresed and yup you guessed it eating more so while i wish the op luck beaware its just the start of more problems.
Truckers and gastric bands, sounds like some new music festival.
The drivers who I know, who are obese are predominately trampers and live an unhealthy lifestyle of poor food, too much beer, lack of exercise etc. If the OP is a tramper maybe he should consider switching to day work or night trunking so he has a greater opotunity to exercise and eat healthily during his free time at home instead of be couped up in a cab all week. He’s taken a dramatic life choice, so maybe taking the next step of a dramatic lifestyle choice to support his recent choice, is the next step. IMO without this lifestyle change to go hand in hand with the band I doubt the results he seeks will happen.
There is a guy who I see down the gym who’s had the op and he’s always giving it 120% doing 1hr+ of each machine (stepper, treadmill etc) sweating buckets in the process. Now he’s half the man he was but he’s got to live with the excessive skin folds issue
I am the complete opposite can eat as much as i like and still stay around 60-65kgs .
What i am trying to do is put on weight which seems impossible no matter what i try.
so horse s for course so they say
i read this post as trucks and gastric bands oh pooooo!!! lol ive known a few trucks drive like they have a gastric band fitted tho
I thought this was going to be another Transam Trucking thread
I had a gastric bypass fitted in June 2006 and have lost just on 20stone from my original 40 stone and I had my apron removed last dec , only thing about the band is its not for life and a lot of banders have it converted to bypass after a year or so, there is only so much tightening of the band that can be done, I was in the baratric unit at Chichester before Xmas with my wife and they seem to be doing loads of conversions recently. Chichester is the top unit in europe shaw sommers,Guy slater and Chris pring are the best . For more info on living with baratric surgery go to weight loss surgery info on Internet , great web site and also hold loads of local meetings , we have a Kent meet first thurs of the month at Brewers oat , hop farm , paddock wood , 7.30 every one welcome from people thinking about having it done to those who have just had it too people like myself who have had it for ages .
Just had a quick read of this post and a few will take the mick, but to you it’s important and you have done it for a reason and it’s not cheap. Probably best getting advise from a Gastric Band Forum, but as forTruckstop food■■? Think small and chew lots and you can’t rush your food.
dowahdiddyman, you said your wife had had the sleeve, what is that mate ? I was wondering if that’s the op’ where they take a bit of intestine out.

No pal, its where they basically remove 2/3rds of the stomach. It sounds a bit drastic and I suppose it is, simply because it
s non reversible. She can now only eat very small amounts at one go, ie half a ham sandwich, or how about 1 fish finger and 4 chips.
Some people, aka as idiots, still think every fat person is overweight because they over eat or eat nothing but crap, well that`s bull, my mrs could basically look at food and put on weight because her thyroid was hideously under active and despite being on the highest safe dose nothing was happening so this drastic measure was the only lifesaving option.
Aaah, thanks for that. I hope your wife gets along all right with it, although it sounds like a pain in the arse for her.
