Truck satnavs.....has anyone got these kind

bobbya:
Bit of envy creeping into that statement I think!!

Far from it, a cheap £30 satnav with updated maps will do just as a good a job. Especially if you have the right POI`s in it for hight & weight limits, and anything else you need.
Though it does need a driver, not a steering wheel attendant to use it, then spend the money you saved by not buying a widescreen bling on beer, wine & prostitutes

It looks very similar to the one I got - I can’t find the exact details, but it all looks the same. I’ve had no problems with it at all once I’ve set up the details for the lorry. It takes a bit of getting used to after a Tomtom, but nothing you won’t quickly pick up. If its the same seller, he gives you a couple of different nav programs on the tablet, I think the one I normally use is Igo HGV or something like that - would recommend it to anybody.

Gary

Yes IGO is one of the programs I use on mine, map looks basic but works very well

Just thought - the one problem I’ve had is that it thinks the Dartford Tunnel is 7.5T max, and always tries to route me through the Blackwall Tunnel instead. Must investigate how to change that!

Gary

i went through the dartford tunnel tonight and if you look the right lane of the left bore has a 7.5t limit and the right hand lane of the right bore has a 3t limit so really the satnav is correct?both tunnels carry a weight limit and no satnav is accurate enough to track parralel lanes underground??its playing safe as it looses its gps signal in the tunnel and cant keep you in the correct lane?
i set mine to 7t it sent me back through dartford instead of blackwall.

Yes, I realised where it was getting the idea from, but I’d rather it didn’t have a limit for the tunnel on the satnav - you might not be able to use certain lanes, but you can use the tunnel itself. By setting your weight at 7T you don’t know if it’s going to send you somewhere where you really can’t go.
On a related note, what is the mgw for a long wheelbase sprinter? Just that there was a Met Police Sprinter using the 3T lane the other day…

Gary

i cant comment on chinese tom toms
as i am in no position to do so at the moment
but i do use the tom tom go 7000 truck version
cost me 400 quid 18 months ago and its been brilliant
and with free of charge live traffic info via the charger
it re routes me from jams and closures
you cant beat it

i’m using the nav truck i down loaded to my phone although i don’t trust it 100% seems ok with bridges although doesn’t like me going over the tyne bridge with a decker on it regards it as a 14ft bridge cos of the height restriction on the inside lane, has also tried sending me down 7, 1/2 ton limits once or twice but as has been pointed out these things aren’t fool proof so you’ve still gotta keep switched on

GVW of a LWB Merc Sprinter 311 CDi is 3.5 ton. Work have one (56 plate). Basicly a 3.5 ton van (99% sure that would be across the board). I think if it has double wheels at the back on each side it may be summat like 5 ton but if its just a normal van with 4 wheels it will be 3.5 ton. I think the vehicle weight is about 2.2 tons so you ahve a payload of just over a ton.

mines the same it misreads the 7.5ton limit on the outside lane in the tunnel,i just reduce gw to 3.500kg then it will route thru the tunnel then just change it back once in essex

I have had one for two years now.bought the upgrade and it’s turned it in to a very good truck satnav not wrong turn can be a bit slow calulating at times.

twin wheel sprinters are mostly 4.6T, anything larger than that and it will be a vario.

use map corrections on your tom tom
just been trying it and weight/width restrictions are still on the dartford tunnels northbound (i just increase weight to 50 tons and remove width restriction).also just before the tunnels where the road split they were “blocked for all trucks” you need to remove the northbound block but leave the southbound block on otherwise it keeps reappearing.
