Truck sat nav?

switchlogic:

I’ve used 3 different sat navs - the one built into my car is rarely used as most journeys are the bog standard home to work, shops family type trips.

Id be interested to know how many people are like me at the other end of the spectrum like me, someone who sets the satnav for every single journey regardless of how well I know the route as I like kepping up to date with the traffic situation.

100%, I set Google maps to get me 4.5 miles from the yard to my house ffs, unbeatable for traffic accuracy.

When out on road it can mean the difference between getting home in your own bed or parked up on an emergency layby

To think all the dinosaur truckers out there boring me to death at DC’s, “roads are too busy these days took any joy out the job” yet there’s some out there who think there too old school to use the tech… madness

When a road is closed or busy and I think I’ll divert off the first thing I think is what way will all the prat nav truckers be taking ? Then I pick another way

Totally agree - look at sat nav with route planning and see if the jobs doable. If not turn it around and get to park somewhere nice so you can get home to your bed.

An Emergency layby, is, well, a layby designated for emergencies only… kind of tongue in cheek comment really intended to hammer home my point about saving precious driving hours

As for the wifey part… yep I do have a nagger but I’d also rather spend the night at home than in my rigid box … I don’t got all the space in the world and mod cons like you lot… I also am not the sort to post pictures of me work tool and spend 2 hours duty a day polishing chrome wheels so sleeping in the thing is something I love to avoid where poss !!

ANY ■■■■ lay by is an absolute last resort ‘‘Emergency’’ lay by if you’re a tramper who tries to make the best out of a bad job mate.
And another thing, you’ve got the Dayman/sleeping in own bed terminology wrong aimed at trampers…it’s …

Sleeping in a TIN box…followed by.

Unpaid security guard.

Washing (sometimes) with wet wipes.

Living on Mars bars and Ginsters pies.

So, Must do better !!

Btw for the record…I never polish any ■■■■ thing outside of my living space.

Oh I’m no day man… if I could find a class 2 stint doing guaranteed day shifts paying the same as this id jump at it…

I do however feel hard done by and like the world owes me a favour when I’m on my 2nd night out on the bounce.

We are planned to get back to base after 1 night out… often tight tho. If Google maps advises against taking the M6 from the Midlands and instead head up to M1 to the woodhead due to an incident, I’m going to embrace technology and enjoy home life a bit more.

If I was single I’d probably turn into a proper trucker , get my c1 and choose a job where I live in the thing. Nice big space cab tho please
