Considering you don’t know Craig’s history I would tread very carefully

IIRC (and it’s years since I used to monitor the figures) Truck used to lose about 2000 readers a year: which only has to happen for 5 years in a row and you are toast.

MaxPower went from selling 100,000 a month to nowt in quite a short time.

Papa Numpty:
Hi again i wasnt really criticiseing (spelling) technology i just meant the whole job in general before everything became so rigid, i dont honestly think i am alone in this but what do i know, i had 26years of international fridge work that i remember with affection if thats the right word but know i would not want it now,but enjoy keeping in touch with old friends you all make the most of it take care Melv.

Hi, yes I absolutely agree with you on that one. Things that were a bit of fun or just done to keep things going smoothly are now “serious issues” :unamused: I wouldn’t like to be back on the Continent with a fridge either, I’ll just keep the (slightly rose tinted) memories and be glad we got away with as much as we did!

Mmmmmm gas gas has took the argument a step forward, Il watch this with interest as I can remember reading on here you were heavily involved with truck magazine.

MaxPower mag now there’s a blast from the past; Every chav with a Saxo or Corsa used to cover their windows with MP stickers. Had a look at a copy once and it was one of the crappiest mags I’ve ever read.

Have you heard of a site called Barry Boys? Some really funny stuff on there, some is a bit vitriolic but still funny!

amazingly, it was once the uk’s biggest selling car mag. I’ll never forget its ‘on the pull’ short interviews with girls in car parks: question three (out of five) “Pink or brown?”

then along came Zoo and Nuts, and they had all the stuff teenage boys were interested in without having to wade through all the stuff about cars!

He ain’t biting JD

Both Craig and I were on the editorial team at TRUCK, under the leadership of Andy Salter. I may be a little biased, but during our time there we put out a bloody magazine, none of us wasted our time on chromed up crap, it was as close to the original format laid down by Pat Kennet as you could get and like Pat, we called a spade a spade and because of that, had a great deal of respect within the industry.

Is it a case magazines are a bit old hat. You can spend four or five quid on a magazine or read about the same thing online for free.

Happydaze, i knew i was not the only one, but have to admit i did overlook the (rose tinted part) thanks for reminding me of some not so nice trips,Take Care Melv

Just bought the current Trucking mag (got Harts tippers on cover) and it’s actually quite good. Much better than the T&D offering. Have to say that the classic mags aren’t great…

Magazines are up against it, and there is no getting around it. A lot of my favourites (not truck mags) have all gone to the wall in recent years, as the internet provides better coverage.

Anyone can be a journalist now. Half a dozen truck driver blogs (the good ones) and you have a better insight into the life and the industry than a magazine will ever give you, you also don’t get the ripped off feeling of having parted with £4 for something that hasn’t even vaguely entertained you for the 20 minutes it takes to read through.

With smart phones now, and most trampers with a laptop, who really wants the physical paper in the hands feeling of a magazine.

I would say the Magacines in Generally in all Countries gone from “information for Drivers” to
“Promotion of Industry”

I disagree, anyone with half a brain can write an article, but can they make it interesting and informative? Usually not, a decent journo also finds stories, rewriting press releases is not journalism :open_mouth:

But the problem is however good a story that a proper journalist finds is it’s usually very old news by the time the magazine comes out. Plus all the transport magazines seem to be mostly rewritten press releases.

some of them charge too much considering how much advertising they have. more than 50% of the magazine in one in particular.
the same stories are duplicated from one magazine to another.
they don’t use the power of the press to deal with the problems within the industry. fuel prices, MSA’s, RDC’s, etc. they mention the problems, but that’s it.
maybe get a popular chef to check the value of the food at an MSA? ask trading standards to recommend a fee for parking, after all it’s illegal to rip someone off.
an undercover HSE official at a notorious RDC?
ask why the FTA, and RHA won’t back up fuel protests.
when testing trucks, do it the clarkeson way. if it’s good say so, and if it’s crap, then say it, don’t ■■■■■ foot around in case you upset someone. they need criticism, as well as praise.

get immigrant to write an articule for druck dan triver
