Truck crash.

This is normal in Thailand. Never be the first to go on a green light. They all jump the lights. That guy was determined to get thru the light. On a mission! :unamused:

go through it He went OVER it and everything around it :open_mouth:

I take it he hasnā€™t put his hand up to Manslaughter, and has consequently been charged with ā€œculpable homicideā€ which rather sounds like ā€˜murderā€™ā€¦ Or is it SA law that ā€œmanslaughterā€ is this ā€œcupable homicideā€, or whatever?
He wasnā€™t on the brakes at the moment of impact by the looks of it, so Iā€™m thinking he wasnā€™t jumping the lights - just asleep at the wheel. 27 dead though. Sheesh. One of the vehicles hit must have been a minibusā€¦ Iā€™m not sure why heā€™s only been charged on 22 of them though, but it might be something to do with them being in hospital, and then dying after heā€™d already been chargedā€¦
No excuses though. The driver needs to go to jail here, and the owner of the truck as well I reckons. :frowning:

This happened in a place called Pinetown in Natal,it is at the bottom of a long winding hill called Fields Hill,I know because I used to live in a place called Kloof which is at the top of the hill and I used to come down it everyday. The traffic lights he came through are at the bottom of the slip road which runs down from the freeway, his brakes have obviously failed possibly due to brake fade from coming down the hill.

Brake fade? - Iā€™ve not come across that since the 1990ā€™sā€¦ Is that truck THAT old?
Brake fade of 100% so not only is the truck not slowing down, but the engine isnā€™t slowing it down either, because of no exhaust brake combined with the downhill run you mentionā€¦

What about the lack of swerving? The vehicle right in front of the camera got totalled, desipte only having just inched through the lightsā€¦ :open_mouth:
Iā€™m not familiar with that model of Volvo - if that was the tractor involvedā€¦

One would also have thought that the driver would have noticed his brakes not working to some degree before coming down that winding hill, and attempting to exit down the sliproad here, the impact point where the rigid is in this daytime shot of the same junctionā€¦

Looking at the entrance to this sliproad coming down the hill, I wonder if the driver mistook it for an escape lane,

similar to this one near Doverā€¦

Was the steering wheel broke as well? Utter ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–

He was either asleep or incapacitated through drik or drugs. There is no way on this earth a driver would keep it kit like that after a brake failure.

Surely there was something else he could of driven into to slow him down.

Looking at the pictures above I would like to think most of us faces with that would of written off the lorry into those trees rather than a whole heap of cars

problem with this one, he was neither A: a competent driver or B: a legal driver or C: an experienced driver, added to that the truck was a pile of crap with no limiter and knackered brakes and I am told knackered everything else. Murder charges have been dropped, probably Culpable Homicide now, I actually do not think he had a work permit for RSA he is from Swaziland.

I donā€™t think competence experience or legality matter in this case itā€™s a common decency.

I can say for 100% certain if the choice was kill loads of people or risk killing myself Iā€™d take my chances with the scenery

Limiter wonā€™t slow you down hill.

Thereā€™s a video somewhere explaining how the driver never used his brakes. Rip to all involved

Yeah, youā€™re a decent human being though, many people arenā€™t. Life is far cheaper away from this green & pleasant land & some folk would put one in the back of your head without breaking sweat.

100% spot on, just didnā€™t want to get into an argument
