Oh yes, the fog around the mountains can be very bad. It won’t stop the locals speeding past into the gloom, and whilst I don’t suggest you follow them, you don’t want to be going so slowly as to become an obstruction if you know what I mean.
Don’t forget to tell your mobile phone company/bank/credit card operator that you’re going away, they can become paranoid and cancel your things!
Lastly, relax and enjoy the trip and the people you will meet. The stories you hear about Italy are 99% Drivers Lounge tosh.
Have a great time, maybe you could take some pics and post them on your return?!
London-Munich-Salzburg-Triest is the Shortest Way,and will be cheaper by Fueling up in Luxembourg and saving Mont Blanc Tunnel or Frejus fee
Food is also better and Truck Stops more liked.
Also Police is more friendly and Fine more cheap.

Isn’t there a problem with the Brenner at the moment? Sure I read something recently but its gone from me! I would go Austria every time if over that side of Italy. Enjoy the trip, they are quite rare for british hauliers these days.
Enjoy! Did my very first continental (rope and sheet flatbed!) job in August, London-Milan, reload Brescia and back having never driven on the continent! Great help received wherever I asked, just put your hands up and admit you need a bit of guidance and everyone I spoke to, on the boat, at the services, waiting for the train at Frieburg (the train was an experience to say the least!) was very helpful. I can give you a few pointers but probably heard it all now
Needless to say have only done one other trip since as I cannot see the money in it, would rather do the Italian swap bodies on this side of the water, theres more profit in it!

Thats the way i went (thanks immigrant) cant remember the exact road numbers
couldnt believe the truck stops all clean and showers spotless and most have bars
food and drink a little on the dear side for what u get
no probs with police at all saw very few on my travels
a lot easier then i had imagined as thought i would have had difficulties with driving on the opposite side of the road but all well signposted roundabouts especially but mainly all dual carriageway motorways
didnt park up in italy as from what i heard some places aint that safe so parked up in austria just before the border.
thanks for all the advice

Where are you talking about?
In Germany what you get is a freshly cooked meal, probably with a small bowl of fresh mixed salads and a large beer, all for around €15. You may have had to pay around €10 for parking, but you’ll have also been given a ticket which when redeemed in the resto’ gives you most or all of that back. So a good safe nights sleep, with a good meal inside you for £12 - 15 in total.
Where would you get that in the UK ?
For a similar price in France, you’ll get a 3 or 4 course meal, including wine and an espresso after, for about the same.
Italy used to be much the same as France, Austria was a bit more expensive.

Glad your trip went well.
It’s the same all over for parking. Some places are a bit dodgy, most places are fine. At a truckstop, if the parking is nearly empty, keep moving. If it’s full, find a space, it’s a good one.
simon every where i stopped was free parking a beer on its own was usually around 4 euro apart from austria where it was three
i aggree austria was a lot more expensive for food a real small salad and i mean small with a coffee was 17 euro
germany and italy food around 10-14 euros for a small plate i only 10 stone in weight so dont have a big appetite just as well maybe a little fussy in what i eat but no steaks etc was to be had just basic motorway services food.
but remember i didnt veer of the main track so could be that was the reason why i thought expensive same as eating in uk services every day would cost a fortune
lesson learned next time bring kettle and fridge not even for the cost factor but for food i like
thanks vern it def is great a lot less stressful no roadworks for miles and miles no endless amount of cones other thing i noticed u see very few cars broke down on the hard shoulder but maybe cause less amount of cars on the roads or maybe i just didnt come accross any real delays or tailbacks
Ahhhh. You didn’t say motorway services, you said truckstops.
I was answering you on behalf of truckstops.
If you’d said motorway services to start with, I’d have agreed with you.
No-one expects value for money on a motorway services, do they
At least over there the parking is free, not £20 extra or whatever it is over here.
That free parking is an absolute Godsend. My last place wouldn’t pay for parking anywhere. Even 7 Euro at an Autohof. So imagine having to pay for parking, for all the places I went in 2 years…No thanks!
simon i presume motorway services but there was trucks at them the one in austria def was a motorway service one of the others was in a kinda of industrial estate with fuel garage and restaurant to the side the others more or less the same but they wouldn t be bus s or a lot of trucks at them
