Trip to Poland

brit pete:
@Ben , take the plug out mate as you little cool box will drain
the Bty mate, as for Sat Nav the TOM tom is a good one mate
if you have time stop at the old border crossing and vist the
museum they have there now as regards the old border crossing,
Also be careful on the road as its full of surprises, Like traffic jams
nice police & custom controls,etc ,

Thanks Pete, Oh yes I am plan to visit the old DDR borders zoll museum - Helmstedt/Marienborn but which side? Westbound or Eastbound for the museum? is free or pay to enter the museum but by the way I will stop both sides anyway.

I got a electric 12V cooler box from Aldi so is ok to use cooler all time in my car? If I switch off the car engine then cooler box will be continue running but will be affect on my car battery?

No, the coller box only take electricity when engine is running. When you switch it off, the cooler box switches automagically to the cosmic beams :unamused: Yes Indeed :sunglasses:

:? Shall i buy a special box - Adapter something to protect the battery?

Yeah, it might be a good option. I would suggest a box called “another battery”. Disclaimer: second battery won’t also run forever, but at least you’ll protect the first one

On the more serious grounds: if you switch your cooler box overnight and hide it in boot or somewhere cold, it should keep the cold overnight. I will take the fridge to Hotel and plug it for overnight :sunglasses:

Also I will buy a Sat Nav so can you tell me which one is best to coverage Poland map include shown many of polish tiny villages!

From the ones you can easily buy in UK, Garmin has the best maps (or what I was told). But the best map for Poland is Polish automapa. Yes I have heard thats popular in Poland but I don’t know if I buy one  looks like I stick with Tom Tom satnav and downloads the Poland Map

Also I have change the route plan, I will catch the ferry from Dover to Dunkerque and drive to Madgeburg for stay hotel overnight. Next day will drive to Łask(nr Lodz) to see our friends and stay their place for overnight then drive to Warsaw to see others friends for a long weekend, Afterward heading to Brodnica (nr Torun) to see my girlfriend’s family.

This is a good plan.

Stop in Las Vegas truckstop in Mostki for a good meal and remember that Warszawa is second worst congested city in Europe. Yes I will stop at Las Vegas and Port2000 truckstop and take many pictures - trucks photos

I am so looking forward it…won’t be long! :sunglasses:

Enjoy!

And please, one thing. Take the correction stickers if your car is British registered and use them. This might be not so important on Western European motorways, but most Polish roads are single carriageways and you’ll otherwise dazzling all oncoming drivers.

It’s a good advice also for your own comfort, as many of them will flash you with their main beam as they will be thinking that you forgot to dip your headlights. When no reaction, they will flash more, more and more and, finally, they will put their main beam on as well

thanks for remind me

want ask one more question, shall i fill up full of diesel for my car in England before go to Mainland or better fuel up at Belgium - more cheaper diesel but I think sterling is more cheap to use because I will use debit card - save the trouble - exchange commision from bank?

I am gonna plan to visit the old DDR borders zoll museum - Helmstedt/Marienborn but which side? Westbound or Eastbound for the museum? is free admission or pay to enter the museum but by the way I will stop both sides anyway.

I will off to Poland on this Wednesday

Cheers Ben

TBH, when I drive down to Poland, I never bother with this… I just take fuel when I run of it.

I have not too big tank and differences in fuel prices are really small, the biggest ever was about 2 quids on tank…

As for Polish fuel - it’s cheaper, but on German fuel you will go further - possibly because better quality.

Betz the entrance is free when you drive to BERLIN you come to the
border crossing museum as its on the motorway, check this

FUEL well what does it cost in the UK , over here around Dortmund €1.30but on the AUTOBAHNS
it is higher.but the prices rise and fall,

Thanks Orys & Britpete for your excellent help & info

When I come back to UK and hopeful will make a diary

Have a good trip,Ben.Pictures would be great, especially of the Helmstedt museum.I wonder if those observation towers with the bronze tinted windows still stand? They were the ones on transit route intersections.

Let you know i am safely home - arrived UK on last Saturday evening from Poland.

The journey went well and very interesting journey. I will put diary/photos as soon when I am ready btw my computer are play about at moment! cannot upload the pics :imp:
