Now Ron I thought of you today …I am aware of your enthusiastic love of 2 wheeled machines so while at a classic car show I saw these and knew straight away it was up your ally … I know its not KSA related but its just as good… see if you can Identify the last one and have a look at its engine !!!

Hi mjb, I thought that these old stickers might bring back a couple of memories for you.
I loaded some machinery somewhere in the midlands in 1980 and I had to deliver it to a factory just past Ankara. I had been told to go to Knights yard at Cherry Hill and that they would fill in my carnet and give me the rest of the paperwork. While I was waiting the yardman came out and gave me three large stickers and told me to put one on the back of the tilt and one on each of the doors on the cab. The guy who had driven the unit before me had at one time stuck a marine dangerous goods diamond on the cab and when he removed it the adhesive had pulled away some of the paint and even months later it had still left an imprint. The yardman seemed quite annoyed that I didn’t want to use them saying that the reason was that if I broke down and one of Trans Arabian’s subbies came along then they would have to stop and help me. So I stuck one on the back of the tilt and I promised him that if I did brake down then I would put the other two on the doors.
I ended up keeping those stickers for nearly 25 years until another Trucknet member asked me if he could have them.

Regards Steve.
Nice one. How long did the trip take, the outbound one? I guess the border crossings were a tad unpredictable…

That load of rice ,Backsplice would have lasted our Philos Forever ?they where a good bunch of lads so deferent from the Brits in there food ,fish and rice was there basic diet (have you ever had burnt rice in the bottom of the pan ) I can still taste that today and dislike any thing to do with saucepans. mainly because of there surgical use if you catch my drift Mirlin will know what I mean , Ron.
I thought this story was good , So I thought why not print it again Ron

any body use the short cut round the christen by pass by following the painted oil drums?

Just as a matter of interest , and I know Backsplice is ? Was a nautical man , I was called over the road this morning to look after a problem with the old lady Mary ? Now she is 90 and it was her son Paul who was in the Merchant Navy he called in Jeddah in 1978 on the ship named Snow Hill , JD took him round to our villa and round the town , I was on leave at the time ,the fact that he lived directly opposite us, is a sheer coincidence ? that shows how small the World was then ,its even smaller today , I took the liberty to take these photos below , Ron

Loos like young Mr Hooper was 3rd mate …maybe a 4th year cadet but definitely still a lad like I USED to be…here,s a couple more for you but … getting back to SARAMAT check out image No 3
