I can’t speak for the rest of the continent but in France where I learnt to drive artics, the trailer brake is applied routinely on decoupling and you would fail your test if you didn’t. Where I work all the drivers always put the parking brake on when decoupling, so I think you may be a bit behind the Times, at least as far as France is concerned.
