I have just had a previous employer phone and ask me a favour, they know I am class one now and need me to tow a trailer for them but im not sure it’s legal, apparently the trailer is 3.5 tonne and not air brakes and is normally towed by a land rover, they want to tow it with a vw toureg. I though with the combined weight this would have to be air braked or is this legal, quick replys needed please,
They are also under the belief the toureg would have to be tachographed, if this is the case would it not be easier to rent a 7.5 and tow it that way? Any help appreciated
Tachograph yes unless for private use. Brakes on a trailer if over 750 kgs AIUI although the requirement for ‘air’ I don’t know.
Thankyou, so it simply wouldn’t be cost effective to use the toureg, I will reccomend they hire out a 7.5 to tow it,
Trailers up to 750kgs no brakes
750 - 3500 kgs overun brakes (like a caravan)
3500 + air.
Hope this helps, Pete
