limeyphil:
i saw one once. he was underground, or was it overground? no, no, no, can’t remember. but he was definatly wombling free. he appeared to be making good use of the things that he found.

Only had one run in with them and that was for a blow out on my trailer which they kindly closed off lane 1 on the M4 for a safe tyre change to be done. Ok they wasnt happy as it was at the end of their shift but they were polite so no grumbles here.
On a diff note i found out that if you are away for more then 3 nights in your unit VOSA have to be ‘invited’ into your cab as it is classed as your home. Useful if get pulled by a jobs worth
Its not 3 nights its if you have a sleeper - its classed as your home - to enter the Police / VOSA etc have to be invited or have a warrent to enter - you can give permission but it must be written in their pocket book - if they don’t follow the rules any case they have against you can be thrown out due to this - evidence gathered without following the rules - it worked for me when they searched my cab without permission or me being present ( was in the back of a cop car with one while the other searched without asking
cheers

cieranc: I would much prefer the whole HATO’s scheme to be scrapped, and the budget allocated to the HATO’s to be spent entirely on putting more traffic police/motorway cops on the roads.
Not scrap the HA maintenance lads mind, the ISU’s and the like. They are more than capable of doing what the HATO’s do now.
Just sack the HATO’s off and spend the money on more traffic cops.
If I was broken down in a car, I’d much prefer an 18ton crash cushion behind me than a 2 ton 4x4.
I’ve seen first hand (recovered one) what a crash cushion looks like when an artic on it’s limiter has slammed it up the bracket.
I agree with that, but I want less undercover cops, or at least less of them pulling people for speeding.
