Disco or Land Cruiser will be fine.
Disco has a tow capacity of 4t same as most LWB Land Rovers.
I would use that and wouldn’t even worry about it tbh
If the trailer is overloaded I would worry !
Plenty of scope for lightening the boat and trailer. Lob fenders, canopies and anything not nailed down in tow vehicle, simples
I’ve dragged them all over the UK and Europe Vehicle wise we use landcruisers. Tried a Disco but although capable not up to the job full time. There are quite a few dodgy boat transporters about so expect to get stopped by DVSA at some point. Our Landcruisers get stopped more than the lorries do. Never a problem as they have tacho fitted and are on the o licence

Have purchased a boat which weighs just under 3t, trailer is around 700kgs.
Obviously this pushes me over the 3.5t threshold a little
Then you can’t tow it, with anything. End of.
No you cannot legally because the trailer only has over-run brakes
Trailers plated at over 3500 kgs MAM need more than over-run brakes such as air brakes
If the trailer is plated at 3500 and its actual weight when towing is 3700 then it is illegal
Had it confirmed by the manufacturer that it’s weight is 2578kg so even with a trailer weighing around 700kg’s we’re still under 3.5 ton.

Just remember that will be it’s dry weight. No fuel, water, waste, fenders, personal effects etc on board and usually basic interior trim too
The hoist oppo should be able to tell you it’s true weight when it’s lifted
Until fairly recently I was towing a 3.5 ton, 7.5m tri-axle trailer with a LandCruiser Amazon (4.2l Diesel) which weighs 3.2 ton with an auto-box. She was utterly superb. Fuel consumption was 20mpg within a gnats on a run. A sniff of a hill and come out of o/d and away she went.
Pulled a six-legger back up a (steep) hill after he had a slight issue at the bottom of the hill he was on. He was trying to turn right and because he was coming off such a steep hill onto a flat bit, the (rear) non-drive lift-axle, even though it was fully lifted, had elevated the drive axle to the point where it was off the floor. Driver going nowhere, poor sod, traffic backing up in both directions. Farmer arrived with some chains, but thought I’d burn my clutch out. Good old auto-box… 1200rpm was all it needed. 4x4 it may be, but it’s no toy.
Land Cruisers were (are now?) very over-engineered. I believe the newer ones only have a tow capacity of 3t now also which is a shame if true.
The price premium is probably only worth it if you’ve got the right regular work for them otherwise there are other things that are less dated for less money for occasional towing.
I use an iveco daily 35S12 to tow my Drift car around.
Plated tow weight is 2750 or 2800kg. Can’t remember exactly.
Tow’s great.
I wouldn’t tow anything with a Disco. I’ve seen 4 towing related accidents down here. 2 caravans, a cattle trailer and a disco offraoder on a flat bed trailer. All towed with discos…
All 4 were complete losses.
Driver error or vehicle not fit for purpose■■?
