Muckaway:
Not sure about other drivers on here who’ve used their products, but I think JCB kit is vastly overrated. When at the CITB college I always preferred Case and Cat backhoe loaders to JCB 3 and 4CXs. Is the 4CX still made? I always thought it was a gimmick machine.
As a shovel driver I’ve tried out their loaders and these were cheap and nasty compared to Volvo and Cat. The older ones just used levers from the 3CX parts bin.
I don’t know how they compare price or performance-wise, but Doosan outsell JCB excavators around here.
That said, I liked the old “Power Slide” and early JS130 and JS220 machines.
They seem to have sold more than expected then if they’re so shoddy? I’m sure they value your comments!

I am also a Derby County fan and our current fave is Patrick Bamford, on loan from Chelski but banging them in for The Super Rams.

never mind

Hi Mr Bamford,
Now you’re on here & we are all your mate’s now, can we have a go on Diggerland for free ?
For some reason I thought diggerland was owned by H.E. Services not JCB.
It’s cheap enough on its own without needing a freebie. Turns all adults into big kids

Well, none of the quarry and recycling operators around here run their wheeled loaders. All Cat, Volvo Liebherr and Komatsu. The backhoe doesn’t appear as often on site, replaced by zero tail swing, off set boom 360s. JCB telehandlers are pretty popular however, a few years back it seemed every site had a Manitou.
i work for a subbie for morrison utilities, and all our gangs have 1.5 ton mini diggers (of various manufacturers)with breakers/peckers.
get a reinforced concrete sub base to break out and you might as well try using a bloody pick axe-the solution is always “get a jcb”!!
3cx is what we hire in on these occasions-brilliant as long as its got a decent driver.all the work of this nature round london is performed by jcbs, never case or volvo machines.
however every place i load from use either volvo/case/cat/doosan loading shovels, never jcb.
the 3cx or whatever its called nowadays is a blinding piece of kit,but why oh why to jcb insist on having the controls for the back actor totally arse about face to a normal machine-i can drive(sort of lol) mini diggers upto 25 ton 360’s etc and use a 3cx to load a lorry with the front bucket, but the back actor? no way!!!

Yea, but there’s nothing like a Freebie from your Mates.

There will be many on this Forum who have sons particularly, but also daughters, who are approaching the age when the life after school and subsequent work beckons. JCB is one of the few companies really committed to the training and apprenticeships of our young people. What is especially different and important about JCB is that they are one of the very few heavy engineering manufacturers left in this country… and they are successful.
Perhaps Mr Bamford would like to enlighten us on what is on offer to our children and in particular with reference to what has happened since the argument with Goad about vocational qualifications.
Lord Bamford is very very passionate about Engineering and also apprenticeships.
For year 10 and above there is the JCB academy, an Academy is a University College and we have other companies involved such as Rolls Royce, Toyota, Bombardier, Network Rail and Bentley I believe. ifb.org.uk/latest-news/royal … ademy.aspx
All our dealerships offer JCB backed apprenticeships too plus we have partner Further Education establishments around the country who can offer a foothold into JCB.
I have been involved with JCB for 22 years, I had a 6 year sabbatical outside of the company which did me no harm at all.
i liked the episode where they became hgv drivers for the day, jeremy clarkson said when trying to connect the air lines if hgv drivers can do this why are they not brain surgeons,he did not have a clue, and the other part where hammond locked up on that downward bend, very funny
I think its great these companies offer apprentiships. We need to get away from our reliance on the banking industry and boost manufacturing again. It’s just a shame that the minimum wage for apprentices is shocking.

I’d just like to thank the bamford family for their continued support of national hunt racing at the cheltenham festival less than 40 days to go
Their Daylesford Organic farm near Kingham is impressive. And every construction firm who carry out work there are avid JCB users. Funny that.
I used to tip JCB 3 times a week. Nice bunch of lads on the various goods in departments (mainly because they used to let me tip at night, allowing me a lie in in the morning)
What impressed me about the Bamford operation is that virtually everything is manufactured onsite rather than just assembled there. Even the parts that were delivered generally came from suppliers owned by JCB. I used to deliver the metal hydraulic pipes, cross-overs, mirror arms, exhaust pipes and other tubular type bits. All made by a Bamford owned company in Dorset (which funnily enough also made parts for CAT, Fermec, Belle and several other JCB rivals)
Well getting back to the original thread, ie Top gear, I watched it tonight and thought , What a load of crap!" The rest of the series has got to get better surely, because tonights effort was just childish behaviour beyond words.
Changing subject entirely, does anyone know what happened to the plant hire place at Swainsthorpe in Norfolk? Despite being in farmer country, that place never seemed to do very well…
