Cameras anywhere are a slight on humanity.
I have observed as cameras have been installed in most places in the UK and it reduces trust in all, no one is immune to the psychological harm that they do, as a lot of it will be subconscious.
All the time people can and do wear a face covering they are of little use.
For a human being to be monitored at all time in the pursuance of their employment is in my opinion, damaging. What would be my qualifications to suggest such a thing?
I am a qualified ■■■■■■-analyst amongst other careers in my life, including being a retired lorry driver…A role which I took, to get away from intrusion via observation and paper work! Also people, I had had enough of them.
We are all free spirits and many take to the road to get away from the hum drum of life and all it brings, but unfortunately driving has been reduced to an occupation that is just another service industry and one in which you can be constantly monitored via several different modes, one of which is a camera.
Freedom has been eroded in all aspects of life, probably a reason as to why so many are frustrated and thus angry as a result.
I left the UK in the end and one of the reasons high on the list, was constant monitoring in every environment…It is not for me, if I cannot be trusted, then I cannot trust those who do not trust me, so no one wins or gains anything…I was good at my various careers, but in the end I had to go…For my own sanity.
Cameras are the work of the devil and never used equally for each party with a stake in the monitoring.
No one likes a camera pointed at their face while working pretty simple.
If you work as a shop assistant… yea you will be recorded but the camera is not directly targeting you.
If you work in IT and you have a web cam directly pointed at your face at your desk… you would be rightly annoyed. ← this is what truckers dislike.
And in your article…
Cameras can also help raise driver standards. You can use your footage as part of your driver training. Also, drivers might be less likely to take unnecessary risks if they know that you’re recording them as they drive.
Do you have any evidence to back this up?
If so why is it that I do not see all the managers and traffic clerks with camera’s pointed directly at them?
The only people who seem pro driver facing cameras are the same people who do not have a camera pointed at them 24/7 while working. lol.
Won’t the cameras be used just for when there has been an RTC which can be presented in court if need be. It can work in the drivers favour showing that their attention was on the road/other motorists

Straight from the camera sellers flogit manual, that’s the guff they get management to tell the drivers when trying to get these things accepted.
Long time ago an ex colleague got the push for eating an apple or similar, no accident or report involved, no union worth the time of day either.
Keep you eyes open where you work, its an open secret that camera footage gets viewed by unauthorised people in the real world when there’s an incident, i know numerous drivers who have seen footage they shouldn’t have, but can’t help gobbing off about it.
Nothing is sacred, they can talk ■■■■■■■■ about data protection till the cows come home, people will always find a way around these things…this is actually a good thing for us drivers, because the management knows that these things happen and as such are wary about the wrong person finding out that footage of them has been seen possibly leading to expensive court proceedings, i’m quite sure this ticking time bomb is at least part of the reason some companies hold back from going full driver surveillance.
We have all round exterior cameras and I’m fine with them. If I mess up, I’ll put my hand up and say I’ve messed up. And they protect me from the car driving liars, who’ll lose all credibility when their statement doesn’t tally with the footage.
But interior cameras? No. The day they come in is the day I refuse to drive that unit, and if they don’t like it, I just leave.
I was speaking to a driver in an Irish lorry who had all round visibility of the outside of the cab, the trailer and the rear of the trailer so when in the cab with the curtains drawn he could monitor the truck for anyone suspicious lurking around.

How would the company know what time on the footage to look at? Do they have personnel staff to watch hours of cctv, from each vehicle…surely not?

Excess numbers of pen pushers finding something to justify their non jobs, this is the danger of live feed.
For all anyone knows they could have a multiscreen system like some site security, 1 screen with dozens of live feeds only requiring 1 of the pen pushers without a real job to monitor every driver on the system simultaneously, an AI would be easily capable of monitoring hundreds of feeds.
Some operations they soon notice when someone has gone off designated route, no different.

I won’t accept them & gave my notice from a job in my first week due to them deceiving me, really happy to have cameras all around the truck but not inside facing me.
Insurance companies & transport office staff employ plenty of kidology but as CJ would say, I didn’t get where I am today being monitored in that way. Tacho is a spy enough.
I,ll walk from the industry if one day no job available without a camera but appreciate I can where maybe others can’t.
I hate them tbh but with the number of drivers you see dicking around on their phones I can understand why companies install them. It’s not really the same as an IT worker as it’s hard to kill somebody while driving a desk.
An Amazon driver today told me that Amazon have installed AI-powered cameras in the branded units used by their franchises. These recognise if you take your eyes off the road, look down at the radio, take a drink etc. and give you an audible telling off.
At my company, the cameras aren’t actually facing you but above the passsenger side door. So it’s films you from the side.
The cameras aren’t filming you all the time. Well, that’s what we are told and to a degree I belive them. The start filming when and ‘event’ occurs. And event would be harsh breaking or cornering for example. I think it then creates a 10 second video of these events for someone to take a look at. It’s an external company which operate the cameras.
I viewed myself after some kind of incident. It wasn’t really an accident but I had broken some other vehicle’s mirror as I passed. I stopped and the other vehicle owner got quite aggressive. Anyway, the managers happened to be around that day and they were looking at the video clips and I was surprised at how many ‘events’ had taken place on a road which was basically a straight one. They could then request additional footage from the camera operating company for a fee for 10 seconds of footage. I believe it was £10 per 10 seconds. They didn’t find anything wrong with my driving so nothing happened.
Every year, a number of drivers have their employment terminated with us because they have been caught talking or texting on the phone while driving. They tell you that they aren’t filming all the time. That may be the case but an ‘event’ is created by the slightest of irregularity in your driving ie harsh breaking or cornering. I’ve heard of another being disciplined for smoking and e-cigarette. It was quite unusual for him not to lose his job by all accounts.
They also tell you that in the event of an accident, it’s there to protect you the driver…providing you hadn’t done anyting wrong at that point in time.

Scary future…
Yes…I’ve been told that these are coming too. With us they won’t be the in-cab camera that identifies your eye movements but the on-board computer which is used for your deliveries and which can be used as a sat-nav.
