Great read, makes my Chelmsford - Wigan - Chelmsford run look like a trip round the block!!
Nice pics Mark, and a good read, I’m not missing the snow over there LOL.

Yeah sitting in the flying j living the dream. I blame carryfast I thought it was all hit the gate at 98 rubber duck and 100mph from coast to coast.
Everyone knows that they only needed all that extra power and speed to make up for all the time spent parked up while waiting for the next load.
But seriously great pictures nmm even during the worst part of the year it must beat working here.

Stuck for words CF? Not like you So much for double drives & traction then. If Mark had had a lift axle instead = job done with no drama.
Great pics Mark, thanks.

That’s flipping hilarious , take it you span on ten mile hill ? Not the best place to have an issue with traction whether you’re going up or down .
Might not be a consolation but my chain curtains are still firmly drawn Maybe the boring Prairies have an added attraction after all ,they do for meServes him right for hating on Saskatchewan I say!!
Just don’t mention the Riders…
Tnx Duck , I bought my house off their CEO who is due for a supper date next week , I feel a few awkward silences could be the order of the day .Mental note to myself and the the team, must try harder
Superb Diary please put DIARY in the title thoigh cos i nearly missed it!
Is was out in BC a few months back and couldn’t help thinking just how horrible some of those roads would be in winter. I’m doing my second trip to Georgia in two weeks and its much more to my liking, clear blue skies and +20’c, now thats more like it! Cracking diary though and some superb pics!
BTW…How do you get all your photos to upload in the one post? When I added mine as attachments it only lets me do 10 at a time.
FTTM, no not Ten Mile Hill, the one after Field, just as you leave BC
Great post fella, i bet you miss blighty eh ? lol, nice photos , i didnt envy you with the snow chains…but i bet you wouldnt swap the life style to come back here…taxed to the max…UK ? good luck …regards, shytalk.
I miss the food, I’d kill for a Kebab, the snow chains themself ain’t a problem, takes 5mins to put them on all four drive wheels, the hard bit is the position you find yourself in when you suddenly realise that you need them. There’s a chain up area at the bottom of the hill, so you got loads of room to put them on and then start the climb with a bit of momentum too, my problem was that it wasn’t snowing at the bottom so I got halfway up and I was in all kinds of a mess when I got to the point that I had to throw them on

Cracking post, looks like my ideal job! What are the spikes on the front wheels for? Can’t see VOSA looking on them too kindly over here!
The spikes are there because they look evil and I like them, the DOT (VOSA) don’t care about them, the fitters at work hate them though, they all have scars on their legs from them

Too true, my problem was I only had 11ton on the drives, split between two axles that ain’t enough to push it into the snow, although it was packed ice under the snow, so I would’ve struggled anyway, but I would only had to throw the chains over one axle, so a lift axle would work for me

Hope I can say the same in a few years Melv, getting too old and fat for that kind of exercise now
Robinhood, I put the pictures on my facebook first and then paste the link (right click the picture, click properties and then copy the http link) onto here, in fact I did it all as a word document and put before%20the%20link%20and after it and then copied and pasted it all in the box on here, that way if I lost wifi I didn’t lose the whole thing
Happy to help with the plate cleaning

Hahaha, I was telling my mate from Texas the story, he reckons he’s learned three new swear words from our conversation
Living the dream…
I’ve dreamt of shipping out to Canada for years but the wife refuses to move.
One day it will happen!!
Great blog Newmercman.
Very atmospheric. Brings back memories of worsening snow conditions and putting off fitting the old chains until it was nearly too late!

When you do it, you can have the car to match your avatar for about $10k, that’s a good enough reason in my book
What are those ‘Pete’s’ like to drive? I know there not everyones cup of tea but i love em. Was that a 379 or something?

I went past that point Still it’s a lesson learned, at the start of winter the snow is only really bad at the higher elevations, so clear roads at the bottom do not guarantee clear roads at the top, next time I’ll be throwing the chains as soon as I hit the snow if I’m less than half way up the mountain…or better still, parking in the first layby until the ploughs come out and sort it all out
I did a much more concise diary this time, from the reception the other lads got from theirs it seems to be the format that people like, plus it’s a hell of a lot easier than the 8000 word epics I usually do. Anyway, stop messing around reading my old ■■■■■■■■, get on with your story on the old codgers forum, I’ve run out of books and the sound isn’t working on my laptop so I can’t watch a film, I need entertaining today
interesting stuff…btw, what are the spiked wheel nuts for
