How did you find that ol 460 then Mat? That’s what i have now & still not 100% convinced about the cab yet but doesn’t pull too bad!
despite it being only a basic spec globetrotter i thought it was plenty good enough for a week away, the bed is a million times better than the older volvo, and i could easily stand up in there (i know im not the tallest of chaps mind!!)

Nice one mat, what do u reckon to the volvo against your daf m8,would u swap
tough call. the daf cab still wins hands down in my opinion (although it cold learn a lot from the new volvo) but the volvo drive train beats it hands down every time (although mine is only a weedy 410). i guess i would stick with what i have due to living space but i would love something that could actually get up a hill!!
thankyou everyone else, i was going to do a video diary, but i forgot i had my camera, and so i stated filming, stopped it and prompt forgot the camera was still on so the battery went flat so i charged it on the ferry, and promptly forgot to sort it out when i landed! so its my own fault for not sorting one out, ill do one soon as im off on a jaunt again shortly, or as shade put it ‘back to the grindstone’!!! im glad people liked it!
Me too. I always used to think flatbed work was a PITA but then you see a diary like this and realise just how boring curtainside general is in comparison.

What I always preferred about flat work was that you were on your way while the tilts and curtainsiders were still zipping up. I did a lot of work for Elvex out of Vlaardingen to Scotland with oil rig stuff, but it was normally through Hull or Teesport
Great Diary!! this type of work is what I’m aiming for, gotta do some hard graft and start at the bottom but seeing diaries like this give me the hope it can be done.
That shot of the Tyne with all the fog, I think you go past the Maritime/Merchant Navy Training centre where I once used to attend, South Tyneside? Could set your clock for the DFDS ships coming in/out. Learned how to Sail a Lifeboat on that river. Yeah it was always that foggy.
Even got a photo of the QE2 docked up when she was doing her farewell tour. Good times
