No evidence of damage or corrosion on the cab or chassis, what could possibly turn these machines into scrap? The disposable vehicle is well and truly with us.

I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more

Just a case of high mileage, as we are also truck dealers it’s cheaper to replace them.

One of those’ll make more money supplying parts for say, 2 or 3 more than it probably could if it was put right.

Overpriced parts. The manufacturers make more profit on the parts and force customers to buy more new vehicles. They all do it; there is no alternative. Stinks, doesn’t it?

Re: Cannibalising, it’s not necessarily a con: I’ve been to several depots where a wagon that’s uneconomic to repair has kept sister vehicles going.

Yes, breaking the “dead” vehicles to prolong the lives of the others, rather than just fragging the whole lot, is a good thing. However, when relatively minor faults in a vehicle, which has lots of life left in the rest of it, result in its being dismantled- surely that’s a bad thing? There are posts on here which mention silencers costing thousands, resulting in the vehicle taking a big stride towards the breaker’s yard, when the majority of it is still have years of service remaining. What a waste.

Anyone know if Cullimores’ still have a “graveyard”?

You must be talking about a different MAN than the one’s we have got, and we have got a lot. apart from servicing and minor things that go wrong with anything, they are never off the road.

With some greenery.
