In a few days we will read about next Friday ■■■■ up.
Be happy you get £9 per or more on night rate hour for sitting around.
Ok it’s not the best rate but others get a salary of around £30.000 and have to work 71 hrs per week, every week, no o/t rate, no early starting rate, no night rate either + rush rush rush, 3-4 collections and deliveries, all curtainsider work.
If you compare that with your rate you will soon find out that you got the better end of the stick.
And if I were you and would be sitting in a canteen for up to 6 hrs, I would work as much as can be achieved for this day, but I wouldn’t rush around like a maniac on duracell batteries, to get all the jobs done in 1/2 shift what is planned for a full shift. To be honest sometimes I only get half or a quarter of the workload done in 15 hrs, due to traffic, waiting etc.
And■■? Not my problem, let the office worry about it.
In your case the office e.g. your planner thinks the following:
“Look at Dozy the numpty. Sitting 6 hrs in a canteen, still got a full days work done. Well he worked on his break and he’s falling asleep behind the wheel, but who cares. Tomorrow we give him even more work.”
You trying to achieve everything all the time, will kill you and somebody else at some point.
it’s not just my decision , it’s the Mrs as well , she’s not settled on her own since my girl left home , she’ got the application form ( works in nhs ) , if it all goes wrong I’ve now got someone to blame other than the planner
seriously I think I’ll be alright , I’ll be home every night & that above everything is the most important thing for both of us , not good when your have your Mrs crying down the phone
robroy:
Starting salary is about 14k doze. 7.80 hour (min wage) for a night porter.
Oh, but you said your life didn’t revolve around money didn’t you.
Sounds a bit drastic mate, surely a van driver must be on more than that, and a better proposition.
rob I’m 56 , my mortgage was paid up years ago , we’ve no debts , my Mrs has a good job , etc etc , so if it’s 14 k then it’s 14 k , it’s more important the Mrs is happy, she hates being on her own , she’d like me home & I want to be home , we both think a change of direction , different type of job would do her / me good
Rob K:
I think Ol’ Merrydown is pulling our legs. I bet his rant last Friday at 3pm was posted from a picturesque pub beer garden somewhere in rural Lincolnshire where he was relaxing and enjoying the weather with his lovely wife. Nice wind-up Ady, you got us good!
rob I would of been down the pub if I’d of done what I first intended which was get in the car with the Mrs , drop the Lorry keys off at work , get my car and go home , but planners , there’s 2 drivers here , van , be with you in no time and you can then get your car just sounded as easy ( saved the Mrs driving up to work ) , but I’d not counted on the 2 drivers ( not so sure drivers is the right word ) getting lost and taking 1 1/2 to do a 20 min journey , then of course I chucked dummy out of pram and chucked the keys at them and went home with Mrs which then was worse really as I had to fetch car sat .
i guess it is hard to believe , because you’ll not here it from the vast majority of esl drivers as they think running in on a Sat morn for £30 is like winning the zb lottery , yes , yes I’ll spend a night at gonerby services when I only live 10 mins away , bring a empty tri down then I can do some hours on sat , so there you go rob , I won’t run in , I won’t spend 11 hrs out fri night 10 mins from my house , and I don’t want extra shifts as 70 hrs is enough,
. and it cost me £150 in clothes as the lovely wife said while we’re at Newark we might as well have a walk round the shops (I’m not moaning as she got it in the head at the services even though she’d just come down to get me but I was zb raging with the depot / planner and them 2 clowns .
I’m not sure which is funnier :
your already ruined weekend was further ruined by your wife fleecing you out of £150 for some new togs which wouldn’t have happened if you’d told your planner that you’d be too tight on time to do the Ashford collection, or
you actually believed your planner when he told you that 2 drivers were already on their way . Are you sure you’ve not just passed your test and are new to the job? Anyone that’s been doing tramping work for more than 5 mins knows the “there’s a driver on his way” line is a crock of [zb]. They tell you that so that you think you’ll be on your way home in half an hour. The reality is that they haven’t got anyone available to come out at all and they only start working on it once you’ve stopped and ring in to say your time is up. Other drivers that have just finished their shift will wander into the office over the course of the next hour or so and they’ll be asked if they want any overtime. If they do then that’s your recovery sorted. If they don’t, well you can sit there are stew a bit longer until it reaches the point where they’re forced to send the next driver that walks in the door because you’re screaming at them down the phone.
I bet you haven’t rung round any of the jobs today either, and nor have you put in your notice at Stobrats. It’ll be the same story again this Friday and you’ll be on here ranting that you’re stuck on the M25 with only 30 mins left all because you didn’t have the balls to say no to your planner when he sent you into London for a collection at lunchtime.
I don’t mind spending £150 on the Mrs , though it wouldn’t hurt to look at the sale rail once in a blue moon
it
I’m planned by a different depot to what I work at , so irrespective of what he says my depot sent those drivers , and there ok with me and if they say they left at 15.00 I believe them ( one is a good mate )
ring round for a job , why would I do that when the Mrs who works in the nhs has got me a application for a porters job , but so my Mrs / girl ( staff nurse ) tell me there’s checks etc to do so I guess if I get the job then it could be a few weeks before I start so you may well get a fri/ rant or two before I hopefully start assuming I get the job because I doubt I’m the only applicant
as for they can leave me as long as they want / no they can’t as them recovering me isn’t the only option to get home , the Mrs can get me as she did , or I could of walked up to gonerby , down into town & up harlaxton road to home , or a taxi from gonerby services to my house ,
listen I was told , 3 rd option go home , just bring the Lorry keys in , and even though some are making taking the keys in a big deal it’s not as you’ve got to go to the depot anyway to get the car
and more fool you dozy if you did a full shift after half of a shift in the canteen…thats bad planning…play them at their own game…tellem you aint got time to do a full shift…so much of the work will be carried over…thats their fault…if you sat in the canteen…and getting paid…they will try it on…believe me…but dont take their ■■■■■■■■…stand up to em man…but dont expect to be home friday… …and start looking for something more suitable.
Dipper_Dave:
Porters job OMG what can possibly go wrong, youl still be out Friday night with a ridiculous collection of Mrs Miggins for her hystericalrhectomy operation when she is the wrong end of the hospital.
All the other porters will be just doing trolley swaps while they let you do all the work…
He’ll be sitting in the canteen.Waiting for his trolly too come back from Mot.

If all the above regarding finances are correct then why the ■■■■ do you put up with it at stobrats?,quit tomorrow sign on a agency and do part time 2-3 days a week!
I’m sure Mrs dozy wouldn’t mind keeping you in coin for a week or so whilst you get sorted if it means you’re not away from home all week.
Dozy.Msy be you need try get job shelf stackers at Aldi/Lidl.They pay good money and try offer just 20-30hours per week.No more traffic, night out and you wife will see you every night.

why wouldn’t it be true I was born in 1961 so you not expect me to have a mortgage , girls left home so it’s the time when most people have spare money to do the things they’ve not been able to do in previous years
as for agency , my Mrs thinks it’s best for me to go in a different direction so I’m going to try assuming I get the job porter ing

new lidl store or do you mean rdc ? , If rdc then yes why not if the job I hope to get as a porter doesn’t work out , as long as they don’t expect me to drive a Lorry for them
I loved living in the UK and working at places like this. Beck & Politzer for instance. Was only there for a couple of months because I hated the place and was waiting to join Tesco. We would sit in the drivers room for hours, then half way through the shift the transport manager would give me a run to Reading (we were based in Daventry), “Can’t do it” I would say.
“Why not ?”
“Because I only have 5 hours left, it takes 3 hours each way plus the change over”
“Well other drivers can do it”
“Fine, send another driver”
Once I joined Tesco in Kiln Farm I found it was a regular thing but they were very strict about sticking to the laws and would never expect a driver to go even a minute over the time. If I were given a run first thing I would do the proper walk around and pre-check, if I found a light out on the trailer I would go to the workshop and call the traffic office, they would tell me to go to the canteen for an hour (the time the fitter would book for repairs) and get my free full English breakfast. If the run given to me was a short one with a second one, that second one would be cancelled and given to another driver.
