The end for diesel powered fridge trailers?

Many years ago I was parked up in the Wilsdruf MSA just outside Dresden and I got chatting to a Dutch frigo driver who said he couldn’t sleep without a 'fridge motor going so he filled cassettes (120s) with recordings of his motor going to get him to sleep when running empty! :open_mouth: Robert

I would love to see them get banned. I hate the bl00dy fridge trailers when they park that [zb] up at services, with the fridge on, and ruin everyones sleep. When I had fridge trailer, I’ve just turned it off for the 45 min rest. Temp goes up by 2-4 deg C. It won’t do any damage.

If it goes up by 2 - 4 deg in 45 minutes then how much will it change in an 11 hour break? A product at +3 on a summers day of 25 will be written off after an 11 break as will a frozen load at -22 with a rejection temp of -18 amazing the ignorance about chilled/frozen loads yet the same people would be at the front of the queue for compensation when they get food poisoning.

You’d think after many years of trucking, overnighting in MSAs & Laybys - we’d all be somewhat immune to the notion of “having trouble falling asleep as a fully-running fridge combination pulls up…”

Perhaps we should be more like Wayne Rooney, who apparently likes to hear his missus running the vacuum cleaner about the house, which hums him off to sleep, according to media reports… (Warning! - Old Hat article!) Rooney: I just can't get to sleep without the Hoover on | Daily Mail Online
I can think of better ways for the missus to hum me to sleep, as it appens, that don’t even need a hoover - but that’s another story. :unamused:

If 10 hrs driving not enough to get to the customer then make them establish a depot half way and park the trucks on their private compound.
Or make electric hook up points at services, and make it mandatory to be plugged in if the fridge is running. So, one night parking wouldn’t be 20 quid, it could go for 30 quid to cover the electricity.

Agree about the electric hook ups but problem is people who don’t need them parking in them and with regards the distance that the load covers, take it you eat no pork from Denmark, salad produce from Spain or yoghurts from France. I presume you are prepared to pay the extra cost of these depots dotted around the country.

The people who complain about running fridges are these the same ones who do not know how to turn their reversing buzzer off or park up with their radio blaring tbh a running fridge in an MSA is one of the quieter sources of noise pollution.
