An HGV driver who overturned his vehicle on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire resulting in a seven-hour road closure has been arrested after he failed a roadside drugs test.
Emergency services were called out to the damage-only collision near Scotch Corner on Wednesday (15 May) at around 6.15am.
Firefighters and paramedics attended the scene on the northbound carriageway at junction 53 for the A66 to help free the driver of the overturned cab of a white MAN lorry.
North Yorkshire police said he escaped without injury but later failed a roadside drug test for cannabis.
The 42-year-old truck driver from the Wirral, Merseyside, was arrested and later charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
He was also found in possession of cannabis and was given a cannabis warning.
The force said he had been bailed to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 13 June 2024.
A North Yorkshire police spokesperson said: “The lorry’s trailer contained cardboard packaging, but fuel from the vehicle spilt onto the carriageway.
“Diversions were in place until around 1.45pm while the vehicle was safely recovered, and the spillage cleared by highways officers.”
The police spokesperson added that they were now keen to hear from witnesses or any motorist with dashcam footage of the incident to contact them and make a report.

That is what it looked like to me from day 1…while I was sat at home on my day off…‘‘enjoying my alcohol’’.

Landed a bit of “decent distance” then?
I’ll save my unrequited sympathy. 
There may have been an element of truth but I don’t get where the sympathy card was leading. Maybe too much of the wacky baccy.
Anyway, from the recent posts attacking the age of forum members, I think we can take it “Sean” isn’t 57.
It seems to be the thing these days,.the world is full of sympathy seekers.
My Mrs is on FB, I aint, mainly because it’s full of people listing their lives problems (to anybody unfortunate to read them 
)
(Please ffs don’t let it bleed over and manifest it’s self on here, if I wanted to hand out sympathy I would join the Samaritans …although I probably would be sacked )
Then comes all the embarrasing and cringeworthy crap on there as replies…
‘I feel your pain’
‘Keep your chin up friend’
‘Everyone is here for you’
and all the rest of the pseudo sympathy dog sh,…where as in reality I would imagine they actually don’t give a ■■■■.
If you have a relevant transport related query, sweet, but ffs we aint interested in irrelavance to it if your parrot has died at the same time or something.
If that is harsh to the hand wringers, I could not gaf.
If I personallly have life problems, I will.(and have done) deal with them myself, if I need help I will ask family and/or friends, not a bunch of strangers on Trucknet or acquaintances on Facebook who care as much about me as I do about them.
