The cab is your home : A few beers?

NewLad:
I shouldn’t worry mate, chances are you’ll be on 9hrs of daily rest, you’ll park up, get fed, showered and then it will be off to bed after a quick phone call to the other half to get 7 hours sleep before you need to get up a put the kettle on ready for another 15.

Speak for yourself mate, I’ve always managed to get some kind of a social life out of the job in the last 30+ years, limited admittedly, but we aint all cab happy, treating the job like some kind of endurance test, the job is as good or bad as you make it.

And to Seth…that’s down to your age mate  (but I know what you mean  )

I don’t generally drink if i’m driving the next day. I will if i’m taking a 45 or 24, Especially when i’m abroad, Chilling in the sun with a nice cool beer, It’s like being on holiday.
From experience and from asking a police officer, The police wouldn’t bother a hgv driver that’s been drinking, unless it was so obvious he was going to drive, and if you have a digi tacho with your card in on rest for some time, Then you will have an absolute defence.

Just a bit of useless information for you:
A driver was once convicted of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle when he was 5 miles away from it.
Try and figure that one out, I can’t.

It was 2 miles away a while back. I asked for your evidence and you said that you would post it…I’m still waiting! :unamused:

are you sure i said that? i’m pretty certain it was 5. but either way, it’s still a bit far.
probably get slated for a possible typo. :unamused:

Like I said in the second post of this thread, if the police cab prove intent then you’re nicked. Maybe in this 5 or 3 mile away story he was questioned about being drunk and disorderly and he admitted that he intended to drive if he could find his car.

I remember a couple of mates of mine had abit of little incident about 16 years ago in Eastleigh.
Whole load of us went out on the ■■■■ while working away and two of em ended up kipping in the firms transit panel van after kicking out time. They didn’t intend to drive it anywhere but they were both absolutely crap faced!
Middle of the night one of them decides to start up the van as it was middle of winter and freezing cold to get the heater going.
That would have been OK but the bloody thing was in gear and parked close to a car infront.
You can probably guess the rest of it after plod turned up!!

Got a message from an American driver a while back who had watched my videos and was amazed to not only see alcohol in my cab but I was drinking it! Apparently its illegal to even have it in your cab over there. Dont drink as much as I used to, but if I want a drink or two I’ll have them. Never had a problem so far, same in my campervan. I do think the police are pretty reasonable in this respect

Thats correct Switchlogic, it is totally illegal to have alcohol in the cab of a truck at any time. It doesnt matter if you are parked for a day or 2, they have a no tolerance limit here!

maybe this is the way forward but then it doesn’t stop you going to a pub it comes down to acting responsibly

don’t quote me but as I understand it if you have the key’s your in charge and ive heard tale’s of driver’s being done you know what mr plod’s like in this country especially if he fell out with his boyfreind
