I’ve done work for Pertemps and had no problems, I’d work for them any time based on my previous experience of them.
If you want to mention crap agency’s then First Personnel or First Drivers on Line deserve a mention.

I signed on with Best Connection in Feb, to fill the odd gaps in the self employed work. I have done just 3 days since then, usually Fridays, even though I’ve been avaiable for 2 days each week, and most weekends
Best connection seem to have a good rep in Leicester - not heard of any negatives about them

Yeah, i hadn’t heard of any negatives about best connection in northampton until after i’d registered, then again i hadn’t spoke to anyone about them
Here’s you typical BC quote, ‘last weeks top earner MR H £1067,90’ and when you ring up about that job they always say, ‘that vacancies a bit quiet at the moment but we do have other work’
Clearstone are another one, they always quote £26k a year and when you ask the hr rate it usually £7.20
To quote a politician ’ their numbers don’t add up’
i worked for the sunderland branch for 2 years and always had work for me and there were top lads…
why do people want to work for agencies? i don’t get it. am i missing something

i work for an agency as i have another full time job and it gets me the experience! i would probably try to avoid it if i decide to do it full time but some people dont have the choice. do they?
Well Phil,
I personally work for an agency because it means I get to drive different vehicles every day, in different environments and for different purposes.
However the BIG reason is because I can have as many days off as I want, I get to pick and choose which jobs I take.
If I don’t want to work any weekends or bank holidays then I don’t, if I want to work every weekend and bank holiday then I can do that too. Or I can have a month off to visit far away lands and In the end I get a very varied working life.
Which for me, keeps it interesting!

I’m only using them as a fill in as such, just set up as a self employed, and am using them whilst I get some other projects off the ground.

I used to do agency to get some extra coin in, do a Mon -Fri at my job then a Sat agency.
Signed up with Best middle of last year after seeing numerous adverts of ‘Drivers urgently wanted’ etc,
Had the interview etc, had a couple of calls asking availability but no work despite me ringing them and seeing more ads about them needing drivers,
Or it could have been the drunken call they got 1 night by me, I said I was ringing just to check they were a 24 hour agency, the guy didnt seem too happy by his 2am alarm call
plenty of comments that make good sense. thanks. see i was missing something. just one which could be illegal. if you work all week full time you can’t work at the weekend as you need a 45 hour break if youve driven an hgv or not. i read about two firemen getting their licences suspended for this.

Well…It’s like this…
It suits some of us, as agency work is as flexible as you need it to be to fit around more important things in life…like looking after grandkids on Mondays…nipping up to the Lakes for long weekends…hearing a bad weather forecast and booking a last-minute bargain abroad.
Try doing any of those when you have a full time regular job… Impossible !!
Basically there are bad agencies and there are good agencies. In the two and a half years since taking voluntary redundancy I have done work for 6 different agencies. Two were bad, two OK, and my present 2 are brilliant.
Currently driving mainly for FedEx through their own agency Resource Solutions. I never work more than 4 or less than 2 days a week (unless on hols).
P.S. The less you earn, the less the taxman takes. Plus you have to spend a bit less too admittedly. It helps if mortgage is paid off and kids have left home, but I did work 6 days a week from aged 19 til almost 45.
Chris,
Is there a website or something for Resource Solutions?
I’ve heard lots about them but never been able to get hold of details.
