Hi Guesty,
Thought maybe it would jog someone’ memory as to the location, Station Road is clear, but above the left-hand tipper on the factory/warehouse “OLNSHIRE” I would guess is Lincolnshire?
Regards Chris

Putting my Poirot hat on, those motors look like they are signwritten for C.P Marshall, which makes it Scunthorpe, there’s a Ford dealer in Station Road Scunthorpe, now Hartwells.
I think Marshalls finished a few years back.

A Trader last weekend at my local steam fair, looking very good indeed . I wouldn’t mind one of these with a flat turned into a decent touring van behind it.

hiya,

I agree with your “Poirot” decision. It does indeed look like the premises of the former Lincolnshire Motor Company on Station road Scunthorpe, which is now a branch of Hartwells.
The lettering does appear to be C.P.Marshall of Scunthorpe who had his premises on the A18 at the bottom of Mortal Ash hill opposite the steelworks.
C.P. Marshall went out of business some years ago , the last trucks that they ran were tankers, spirit , black oil and gas. Incidentally , Marshall’s also had a popular cafe on site and only recently a new cafe has started trading from their old premises
Another identifying feature, apart from the smog of the steelworks is the outline of St. Johns church in the background.
Hope this will help,
Bassman

There you go, the beauty of this whole forum, when people stop bickering over silly little things that don’t really matter, & just agree to differ & enjoy our shared interest together, the knowledge on here is phenomenal, just stick up a pic’ or a quiery & someone always knows .

It’s like when the CB’s were at their peak of popularity, very useful when used sensibly, a bloody nuisance when not.

Why Harry ?.
I just like the look and shape, never going to drive one now I suppose. And I am far to young to have driven one in earnest ! (Haha only 50 )

hiya,
To be truthful 3 wheeler although the right age to have been around when
the Trader was operational I never drove one in anger only ever moved one
yes we had one, and it was always parked up in front of me when I needed
to be away early so I had to move it, but one Sunday morning a miserable
wet day climbed aboard the T started it up and put the wipers on and the
vacuum operated things decided to “discharge” a load of gunge all over my
nice clean going away shirt, by the time I’d got cleaned up the Ts driver had
arrived and remarked, it’s always doing that Harry they’re all the same, put
me off the things I’ll tell you, was it only the early Traders that had vacuum
operated wipers or did they eventually electrify them.
thanks harry, long retired.
Retired Old ■■■■:
Who was the firm from Acton that ran a whole fleet of dark blue 4-wheeled Traders?
Of course, it was Dodd’s.
It took a while for the info to filter it’s way through all the liquid which seems to be filling up my old body these days.
Maybe if I didn’t drink quite so much of the stuff?
Naaaaaah!
Great shot of Normans Trader L600,when I got to know him in early '69 he had a Turbo’d D1000 and he ran out of Smith Bros and when he was down in London he loaded back off Watts at London Colney.Would he have been running out of Smith Bros when he had the Trader ? He definitely looks to have a none standard diesel tank on the Trader,it looks like it could be an ex Leyland/AEC tank?,it would have been a lot better than the standard fitment on a trader,20gal IIRC.I had the standard 40 gal plus an extra 20gal behind that on my D1000.Great shot though, keep 'em coming ! Cheers Bewick.
not a reet good yan but ok for now
