Tesco defect

We carry out all basic maintanence ourself, drivers change bulbs etc there self…
I couldn’t embarrass myself getting a fitter out to change a bloody bulb

guy I used to work for would send you on a Greenock/scouse docks trunk every night (after youve worked all day of course).143,no limiter and flat to the mat there and back.refused point blank to issue you with rear lenses for the trailer with the argument, itl still be daylight by the time you get down to the quarry café at beattock…you can nick some there…i never did thet…I just waited till he feked off and nicked someone elses from the yard…went out with no rear lenses or bulbs, then put them all in up the road a bit…how times change…where did the good old days go…

And if you are hourly paid who the [zb] cares anyway, kip on the bunk until the fitter arrives.

+1
that covers it for Tosco type companies.
you must not think
you must not do anything you have not specifically been told to do
you must not show any form of initiative
just comply with every risk assessed task irrespective of how time consuming or useless common logic tells you it is
unzip your brain and leave it in your car before starting shift.
waste as much time being unproductive as you possibly can and you will be praised by the traffic office.
you are told that itl never be your fault if your delivery is late, and never to pull in to let traffic pass when your at the head of the rolling roadblock you have created by driving strictly to the speed limit as you must never ever drive above the limit.
if you are completely bone idle, want home after a 9 hour shift every night, have absolutely no shame in demeaning yourself to being the equivelant of being a zombie cabbage wearing a hi viz, then Tosco is the holy grail of employers for you.

some of u lot talk a pish all stupid hearsay get a effin life half u lot tesco would not employ not good enough I no why listening to pish I read

Not really heresy as Nock saw this happen in his own yard and the other thread with the guy on the tail lift was started by a driver at the same depot.

Tesco are all about health+ safety some guy fell into mechanics pit while back badly injured so we are not allowed to repair anything h.s say not your prob defect to v.m.u as I get paid on clock no problem hope that clears it up stops ■■■■ spreading lol

the maoster:
This is merely a case of a company reaping what it sows. I’ve never worked for Tescos but I imagine that like many other Co’s who seemingly employ two managers for every driver they regularly treat their workforce like school children and present them with reams of paperwork, risk assessments and various unnecessary hoops to jump through.

So in this case the driver was merely playing them at their own game. Like it or not this job is not what it was 10 years ago even, adapt or die is the answer.

Could not agree more mate, if they are daft enough to pay him 2 hours wages waiting for a call out to change a ■■■■ bulb, crack on and display to everybody else other than these tossers, how ■■■■■■ ridiculous it is in reality. :unamused:
I said something similar on doze’s ‘whats the world’ post

I know what you are saying mate, and realise you have to abide by co. rules no matter how bloody stupid, just to keep your job.

However the official line of the ‘guy falling in the pit’ may, or may not be true, but for every one of him, thousands of other guys in the past, have changed bulbs and other basic minimal repairs and escaped injury.
It’s all about keeping things in perspective, and not getting carried away in Health and Safety cloud cuckoo land. :bulb: and seeing stuff for what it really is…official line corporate ■■■■■■■■.

Just the way tesco works robroy, I get paid by hour their policy their rules o. T for me I changed bulbs etc elsewhere I’ve worked so I stick to h. S get ot simple lol

Yeh, like I said mate, you have to abide by their rules, especially if it benefits you by being paid for the extra time taken.
As long as you/we keep in touch with reality, and see it for what it really is, let them crack on with it. .

I agree

It may seem trivial but if the company procedure requires a fitter the change a bulb then so be it. If the company want to pay me an extra hour to wait for a bulb to be changed I am not going to complain. The old days of changing bulbs and wheels etcetera are long gone in big companies in the name of self preservation. Everything is documented and requires training to keep the ministry men off their backs.

There’s a bit of a difference mate between changing a bulb and a wheel, the changing wheels on a hard shoulder days as you say are long gone thank Christ, and I personally have done it quite a few times in the past, … but a bulb?

I have already agreed with the co. rule point, but surely common sense SHOULD take precedence.

I know at my place any sort of defect whatsoever it doesn’t go on the road until rectified and we are not allowed to fix anything including bulbs.
Even at drops if a bulb has blown we are expected to inform the office and they call someone out to change it for us

You’re not allowed in the workshop officially, you have to ring a bell wait for someone then stay one side of a painted yellow line.

Unless of course the vehicle was ONLY used on roads between sunrise and sunset - in which case it doesn’t need to be fitted with lights!

really? one has to wonder what to do if its raining, snowing or foggy then !

Mike 68 is correct must ring bell and wait every defect must be recorded for v.os.a to inspect that is the way now ?

What a hero

I’d gladly change bulbs but if they want you to go and fill out a defect note and sit over the VMU for anything up to an hour to get a bulb changed, then who am I to argue, paid by the hour an all that

To be fair, over the years i’ve found already fitted in place double contact bulbs in single contact holders and vice versa, stop tail bulbs forced into indicator bulb holders, 5w bulbs in 21w positions, 12v and 24v bulbs mixed up, and headlight bulbs hanging out or fitted upside down or on the ■■■■, and any number of variations on the theme.

Unfortunately its just another thing those of us who get on and do it have to put up with, these companies work on lowest common denominator rules, they employ a few utter idiots and everyone else has to be dumbed down to their level, even where i work this is starting to happen…not the bulbs lark we fit our own if we wish to or pop down the workshops if we don’t.
Why these companies don’t do it the other way i can’t for the life of me work out, employ better (usually paying top dollar for reasonable hours so can cherry pick) and train the idiots up to better level, if they’re too thick to learn then either the recruitment people need their arses kicked and/or get shot of the idiots within the probationary period, why is it so hard.
