I use a truck satnav. I also use these very useful 2 items called eyeballs and a brain, which I use to look at the road and street signs to navigate my way around the country. Why not just go back to using horse and carts, then there would be no bridge strikes or HGVs stuck on country lanes…OR just ban every dumb F**k who seems to have a HGV license in this country these days.
edit 3 items if anyone wants to be pedantic and class eyeballs as 2 items!
With some drivers having technology stuck in front of them it seems it negates the need for brain or eyeballs and when it all goes ■■■■ up and kittens are squashed they’ll blame the technology for their big balls up.
BTW- only 2 items (eyeballs) with most steering wheel attendants, these will have been disabled anyway with the obligatory labotomy…
Completely banned at my place. Given a map of the place we are delivering to with directions at the side. Really isn’t rocket science to use a map combined with a truckers atlas for the low bridges and weight limits etc. I think a lot of drivers only use sat navs because they are there but if there was no such thing no one would have a choice but to simply crack on.

If satnavs were used as they were intended to be used, it would eliminate bridge strikes entirely. I am not surprised we are seeing firms banning them, now we are told they are good for overtaking if you are doing 1 mph faster than the truck in front of you FFS. Is there any wonder we are all tarred with the same brush.

That’s a bit selective, my post mentioned being in a car, another post mentioned an unfamiliar motorway, I have used paper maps all my working life and have never blindly followed a sat nav but they are still useful.

No one is saying they are not useful, I am however saying that they are not been used correctly as in your own admission to how you use one.
theyve stuck those microlise tablets in the cab because it’s got a driver facing cammera in it , contrary to the messages on them , why do you think drivers stuck tape / stickers over them and then got told to take the stickers off , even had bloke who explained it saying it wasn’t active or whatever big word he used , I just said that ok then I’ll still leave my towel over it .
This telling you want a wonderfull system it is to lull you into a false sense of security whilst they watch you

I was in a CPC course today and was pleased to hear, Tesco have banned the use of truck satnav use. If you are caught using a truck satnav you will be banned from their sites and could lose your job. I think this will be introduced by a lot of companies now and is in my opinion a good thing. You have to use a wtraditional map and they even check that you have one. Lets hope this continues and other firms quickly follow.
Were you ■■■■■■ again when you composed this post UK?
If your comments are correct, then I’m curious as to what Tesco’s stance is on smoking in the cab.
I see many a Tesco driver having a ■■■ at the wheel.
Personally I couldn’t give a four X if drivers are smoking at the wheel.
I care even less if they are using a sat nav. Drivers often use a sat nav to obtain other information such as traffic delays or time to destination.
You’re talking bollox!

No I am not on both counts. Please tell me why you think this as you are totally wrong and I am sure others will back me up here as I am not the only one who does Tesco work on here.

Serious question, do any of the satnavs have a yard shunting mode? I’m asking for uhh a friend of course.

I can sort of understand the bit about sticking to certain routes for the sake of their delivery conditions etc, but what if you’re on 2-3 store drops? unless the runs are regular routes then the official routing will be from the depot.
Had this at Sainsburys years ago, it was always multidrop work and ALL the route maps started from the depot.

Tesco issues multi drop routes with directions from North, South, East and West of all of their stores. You have to follow their routes in or fail the delivery if the routes are out of date.

That’s where they like you to use your common sense.
tesco don’t issue store to store directions as you say they are all based from the depot. so you use your savvy to get you from 1 to 2 etc.
same as us in london all risk assessment routes are based on artics or vehicles over 18ton ie must use tfl routes.
but if a certain store is being done on 18ton or under you can take a direct route through london providing it’s legal and safe and not taking you longer.
As for failed deliveries ie risk assessment out of date or road closed, road works, loading bay suspended they will agree on doing the delivery if you know another way round or delivery position etc providing it;s safe and legal.
half the places I go to, Id never find without a sat nav. They are these small companies wanting one pallet down a silly street or tiny industrial estate with zero signposts.

Another stupid rulle ban sat nav and hate sat nav if stuck somewhere.Sat nav very good devise. It is digital atlas who show everything.Just need not just enter postcode and go .But taked few minute and use sat nav zoom and check what he show.Main problem with stuck in narrow street who drivers not check what sat nav will show and not check road sign and try reach delivery point asap. But some time better stop ,check again and do extra miles and can reach delivery point more quikly. If drivers just follow paper atlas that he can stuck in the city anyway. No so much drivers can remember some 10-20 or more turning .
Sat nav increase road safety if this drivers with good common sences. What will in the road if all truck drivers will go by paper and will stop every road crossing to found what street name here??Sat nav give to drivers instruction some distance before turning.Drivers can prepaired to taked correct line nad not panic. But if some drivers remember all uk road and access to any supermarket ,factory that must give him medal. But no so much driver remember everything in own town ,county where he born, live.
