The problem with the tesco routing policy and the directions that are on the back of each delivery note are that it’s highly likely that they haven’t been updated since they where 1st risk assessed and drawn up & put on file, so I suspect they won’t be up to date with local authorities planning changes or take into account any new roads or building that has been done since then
UKT should take everything he’s told by the green machine with a pinch of salt, or they’ll green(brain)wash him to think everything inc the sky is green

They are done by Tesco, if they are not updated or correct the rule is not to deliver to that store. The reason why they have banned sat nav is because, a lot of their stores have had planing permission granted providing that they receive deliveries via certain routes into the stores which has taken into account low bridges, congestion and the least disruptive for the residents.
Sod that…i love having my sat nav on, not just used for directions.
Granted i can get to where i need to be with out it, and i do often ignore its route and use my own ways at times but its much more then a route planner to me.
Ideal for knowing how long to next shop or yard, wether i have enough time. How long to the next junction, will i have enough time to complete the overtake safetly. And most importantly…the speed.
I always have a nice truck map to hand and then of course the phone for google maps, like tescos my work has set routes etc at some shops.
I just think a sat nav can be as valuble to the job as a map now a days.

I was in a CPC course today and was pleased to hear, Tesco have banned the use of truck satnav use. If you are caught using a truck satnav you will be banned from their sites and could lose your job. I think this will be introduced by a lot of companies now and is in my opinion a good thing. You have to use a traditional map and they even check that you have one. Lets hope this continues and other firms quickly follow.
What’s Tesco gonna do with my yoke
MAN with built-in Sat Nav!!!
They gonna put somebody at barriers to check each truck coming into DCs!!!

You bunch of Luddites. What’s wrong with satnavs? Mine has live traffic information that is more accurate than highways agency information, and guides me around traffic jams etc. Surely safer listening to instructions than fumbling with a map?
ezydriver:
Follow a map? My firm are instaling live feed driver facing cameras, and have sacked drivers for daring to do anything other than grip the wheel with both hands, and blink only once per minute. I’d like to see one of our drivers glance at a map in a moment of need and get away with it.
As I said yesterday, all drivers should ignore all bull[zb]restrictions, at all times, forever. What are they gonna do then?
zb 'em!
I am sure you will go and tell John Williams to his face

It’s not the traffic updates that is the problem though is it. Traffic updates are useful on a Satnav. If drivers used a sat nav to simply find the actual building they were looking for on the last part of their journey when they have finally reached it, not so bad, but the majority of sat nav drivers have no clue of the motorway and road network because they are simply following the on screen instructions without checking their routes on a HGV map. This is what causes 99% of bridge strikes which is now a very common occurrence amongst all the rest of ridiculous situations they get into. There is a massive difference between a driver who plots his route on a map than a driver who punches in a postcode on a sat nav and follows it.
HGV said using a sat nav to make a choice if its safe to overtake or not.
The sat nav will display in meters /feet or yards when a dual carriageway becomes a single, at night or one a road that you don’t know, the distance display will help you .
Or the distance to the next junction or roundabout .

^^^^^^
This all day long.
If im not on a familiar route, ill look at the map, get the roads into my head and turn the nav on to find the address the last few km’s. The problem some drivers will have who just inanely follow a sat nav is that given its shutdown they could actually be in a position of not knowing where the ■■■■ they are…

Just my view
Would you care to explain that bit please?
Quite obvious really…i have extra speed on the wagon infront, i know im approaching a junction, i look and its say 3 or 4 miles away, i pull out and overtake and pull back in at a safe distance with enough time to exit at my junction. Therefore not cutting in at last minute to exit.

It’s not the satnavs job to know how high/wide/heavy/long you are. You’d have to be a ■■■■ to think that it is . In which case you need protecting from yourself. Hgv map book for the route and satnav for eta and traffic

Well I think this sums up what I am saying with regards satnavs really doesn’t it, if you could ask for a good response as to what good use is a satnav. This would not be it. I am shocked and stunned at this response but he isn’t alone in this. Certainly this is becoming a problem now with the newer drivers, I could be trundling along the road nicely doing my innocent Tesco deliveries and this driver pulls out from behind another vehicle approaching me head on because his sat nav said it was safe to overtake as he had the speed and no bends on the road. Lovely, now all of my Tesco produce is all over the road because of his lack of ability to use normal driver skills and he is just following a satnav. A satnav is not to let you know if it is safe to overtake or safe to do any maneuver on a road. Unfortunately this is why people buy expensive satnavs, they think it will compensate for the lack of driving skills, unfortunately it doesn’t. Case closed.

And how would your stuff be all over? Are you wandering onto the hard shoulder? Going up a grass verge? Its either a dual carrageway or a nice new smart motorway…so i think you have your own lane still dont you? Or does thr thought of a driver overtaking you frow you into a fit of rage?
I have had many drivers go past me to then indicate halfway past wanting to pull in and cut off at the junction fastly aproaching. Now is it not all about forward planning an overtake or is that out the window now?

I am a fool answering this but here goes. You need your licence taking away, I rest my case, take him down bailiff.

Well you must be right.what with all your knowledge. I must be such a dangerous driver. Someone must take it from me straight away
Next time when im on the motorway and aproaching a junction i shall ignore my distance to next stob and go for the overtake and cut in no mater what
Infact lets ban overtaking all together shall we. There for you will be safe eh
