How times change? Once upon ‘a many years ago’ a job at Tesco DIRFT required a minimum of five years experience and a squeaky clean licence, a proper on a wooden step medical/fitness test, a written English test, a maths test and a written and practical driving assessment. I [zb] you not!
P.S. The reason for slow Tesco drivers…they’re limited to 50-52mph and on hours contracts that, if you don’t do your conract hours, you end up owing hours and having to come in on a rest day and make them up. Would you rush about all day to have to work an extra Sunday for a flat weekday rate■■? Thought not!!
I always thought years ago that Tesco was a cushy job, also dead mans shoe type of gig.
How things have changed.

Over 20 years ago, maybe, but since 2000 the contractors (DHL, Exel, Tibbett & Britten, Power, Wincanton, Stobart etc just a few of the present and past) have taken over at many DCs and it changed a lot.

This was about 20 years ago, the 1st contract was done by Power Logistics I think they are a Canadian company and this was their 1st contract in Europe.
It was a hard job to get into with a long driving assessment, Medical couple of interviews but it was good, Powers motto was “we don’t want to be the biggest but we want to be the best” it was a relaxed place to work with some decent managers and a job for life… Then Exel had a short crack at the contract and sent it downwards, quickly followed by DHL who completely ruined the whole job with a steady driving crew of full timers of around 120 reduced to 80
They put kids from the warehouse into the transport office and made them up to shift management, two in particular used to have games with each other by winding up the drivers, giving them runs they knew the driver didn’t like, making sure their allocated unit was taken out by an EE flip flop as they clocked in for work this sort of childish stuff.
Anyway their was soon more Agency staff in their than full timers, they would fly them over from Greece at Xmas and put them up in a local hotel. They couldn’t keep drivers or recruit and it’s a poor job now.
Tesco recently took it back over and they had to increase the pay including decent overtime, they are always advertising and the agency are paying £18 an hour at the moment.
It’s ok mike she you don’t have to thank us for our input to your question or even have the decency to let us know how you got on

That’s very gracious of you mate. Unfortunately I was otherwise occupied dealing with a bereavement in the family so I do humbly apologise for not kissing your arse. Needless to say I didn’t get round to doing any assessment.
