Tax Relief for wearing uniform at work

sounds good i did it got some back

I’ll have to look into this as I too wear uniform at work.

Yes got my new tax code this week £60 a month for washing logoed uniform and it was back dated 7 years

£60 a year surely?

60 added to your tax code is a nice round £1 a month. Don’t spend it all at once.

was told by the tax people your uniform MUST have a logo

they lied!
I claimed for 18 years with no logo before switching jobs to one that had logo, never asked about logo.
It doesn’t even have to be a uniform in the accepted sense, all it has to be is clothes that your employer provides and insists you wear.
So, if your boss provides levis and insists you wear them, they qualify.(I know levis have a logo!)

del949:

am sure when I applied one condition was that uniform had to have a company logo on it too and not just plain workwear (may be wrong though have slept since

No need for logo

That is what I found on some IR Random Number form

‘… tax relief for the upkeep … of … uniform…’

When self-employed I charged myself £2.50/day on my weekly returns - now it’s factored into my taxation by my employer.

Yes sorry i ment a year,i know it’s not a lot but it is still £60.

It’s not £60, it means you don’t get taxed on that £60, so in reality you gain around £12. Every little helps though.

Thanks very much to John for the heads up  Mine came today, took just over a month.

by eck you lot. you can claim for loads of stuff. if it’s work related, then you can claim it.
the easiest method is if you claim working tax/child tax credits.
there is a section for work related expenses. i usually do mine over the phone nowadays. (i’m quite the expert  ).
i replace my passport, driver card, adr, driving licence, international licence, cpc, and driver cpc every year.

I wrote a letter last year with no response? What was the address you sent your letter to?

Don’t write a letter. Complete and send off a P87 Expenses in Employment. You can also claim for maps, Satnav if solely used for work, any gloves etc you buy and for the agency guys, travel as well.

I claimed back laundry costs without a problem…got about £50 back for the cost of 1/4 hour writing and cost of a stamp. However I did ask about claiming for maps and was told I couldnt claim releif for them. May be different if you are self-employed or limited Co. however
