Tarmac tippers

Another Bayston Hill haulier, Roger Titley’s ERF E12 TX 300 circa 1989, usually ran with the number plate plate spaced as J 300 TX. Later trucks, all articulated tractor units carried, and still do to this day RTT135 reg number…

Thanks for posting those excellent pics Tarmac, keep em coming!

Is the Volvo FH eight wheeler still running around?

Cheers

Which one ? T4 TPT ? That one was back on its old plates Y672KUX, but think it caught fire a few months ago, and we guess was scrapped, as the driver had a newer wagon after that…

No mate, I mean the FH cab as usually seen on artics was in Trucking mag at the time as was the only one in the country, Im thinking Duncan Slater?? was the operator.

Great pics from Ampthill, unfortunately Andy Darrington passed away relatively recently. I have some pics of his later Foden which he ran from Brampton which I will look out.

nice variation on the normal livery, a couple of Mancetter’s hauliers delivering their asphalt…

Here’s some of the Bayston Hill trucks from a few years ago…
Jim Clarkes old truck is still working everyday in minffordd quarry

I met this truck in a small town in Wales during the summer while on my holidays, It was in a place with a small steam rail line running above the road on the right hand side, cant remember the name of the place. The girlfriend was filming the train running along the line and I flashed the tipper and he flashed back  sharon handn’t a clue what he was flashing for.
I headed down through this area after following this thread, never saw so many stunning tippers in my life! Big cabs and Big HP :sunglasses: Thanks to Dave for starting this thread although my girlfriend had a pain in her arse looking at tippers and quarries in the South wales and Sommerse areas at the end of the week
Cheers
John

That’s ll be Minffordd Quarry, with the Ffestiniog Railway running close by, this view has changed alot now, as the new bypass is being constructed by the quarry entrance, and they have a newer asphalt plant, that was brought up from Dolyhir Quarry…may be there is a tipper on here somewhere :grimacing:

Tarmac’s Ampthill Coated Plant in Bedfordshire, 1988, A381KHD Andy Darrington’s DAF departs the Coated Plant for the Weighbridge, behind is the Clean Out Lorry, a white Magirus Deutz still in its Hoveringham livery.

Stunning pic there TARMAC! :sunglasses:
Just what this topic was invented for.

Another variation on the striped theme ! One of Dolyhir’s hauliers tipping into Cheltenham Surfacing’s Blaw Knox paver…

And a more recent one (this morning !) , T12 TAW resting at Bayston Hill due to the white stuff (this was previously X4 DMH)…

Looks like this w/bridge hasn’t altered since the 60s! Very nice to see actually! :sunglasses:

Couple of absolute classics here, gents. One you may have seen earlier but in a larger clearer format.
The location had me scratching the old noggin for a long time, but after seeing the second pic (the Albion), I’m convinced it’s on the Cat & Fiddle road - Macc side of the pub. There’s a crossroads and I’m convinced the lad who took the photo was stood near to it whilst looking back towards the pub/Buxton.

Anyway, enjoy the pics. :sunglasses:

From 1987, the late John Austin’s Truck was one of the best trucks working out of Bayston Hill Quarry in Shropshire, these two pictures kindly lent to me are, one’s from Silverstone, where the trucks were on display for the Truck Grandprix, and they also had a parade lap of the circuit…the other in 1988 at a local truck show

Sister wagon to the one parked at Cliffe Hill below.
(Real beauty this - Like the older ‘fashion’ of having the large lettering and seven T’s logo on the side of the body instead of the ‘TARMAC ROADSTONE’ lettering the company replaced it with sometime during '84.

Here’s an old one, this looks like an official publicity shot to me…

What a fantastic thread. :sunglasses:
God knows why its taken me so long to look at it though. :unamused:

Brings back many good memories of my days at Tarmac Baston Hill.
I started in there when I was 22 driving for Ivor Challinor.
Then I had a stint driving Dave Humphries 8 wheeler Constructor.
Also drove John Austins FL10 for two weeks when he had an ERF on demmo.
Did some driving work for Tony Pugh, Kev Castle, Graham Cooperman, Dave & Phil Carson & many more.
Had my own little 4 wheeler Leyland in there for a short while too.

Great days when truck driving used to be fun.

Good to see so many great pics & old names, the Baston Hill crew back then were a great bunch of lads to work along side.

Oh, the Jocktrotter (X4 DMH) pics, was that Daves (Jock The Rock as was) Volvo?
The pic of Chris Middles 6 wheeler (Tubtrotter) or Tubs as he was known when I was there is a great pic.
What a star that lad was, had me in tears most days with his jokes.

All the best.
Johno.

:open_mouth: KNT…Thats the 8 legger I was on when we were doing the M6 (J14) on nights. :sunglasses:

That pic must have been around the time Tony had just started running contract trucks.
I also drove the 8 legger Leyland Constructor he had, I think it was Pete Arnolds old motor that Tubbs drove when Tony first got his Tarmac contract.

Ah, happy days.

Its like a request show tonight !

Here’s some more of Bayston’s OD’s at rest…both of these are / were Y4 GCT of Cooperman, CP53HPN was about the third incarnation of Y4 GCT, while the one on the right became RTT135 only last week, while Graham’s new MAN will be arriving very soon…
