tanker companies

kevmorrow:
Air Products had a base at Sandbach. Hydrogen Supplies had a depot at Trafford Park Manchester. I know they were both competing for work within the edible oil refiners. The oil is heated up and the Hydrogen is purged through, the longer this process goes on the harder the chocolate is. Otherwise it stays liquid form as Chip oil!

Hydrogenated Fish or PKO :stuck_out_tongue:

Didn’t Air Products have some AEC Marshalls based in Hull,Malc,on the cylinder job?

(Hard palm Kernel Oil) HPKO 95 very hard used for Birds dream topping. The softer HPKO for ice cream. It’s over 25 years since carting edible oils, I suppose things have changed in processes. Used to deliver a lot of fish oil & palm ■■■■ seed to KRAFT Kirkby, Liverpool, margarine. Lots of fish palm soya hydrogenated sweets and biscuit blends. I believe Kraft used to use lupin seed oil 1924. I remember in the 1960’s70’s if fish oil had got baked in the tank, on washing out we added 5 gallons of paraffin and water for a Paraffin Boil Up. Either steam up through bottom valve or steam trace for a few hours. Not legal now!

Did’nt realise how many different companies were involved with edible oils sector, I never knew which fleets were manufacturers own trucks or who contracted out

The "P L Transtore " ERF was a firm I knew quite well and they run as "NORCO " before, I can’t recall if was just a name change or takeover we did a bit of work for them and I ran with their drivers fairly often and some good mates on for them.

a couple more foodstuff tanks

Three more United Molasses, three different liveries in 10 years or different parts of the same company.

Are they still around under the UM colours or now part of a bigger banner?

Brittania Lard used to run their own vehicles too and PL Transtore did their storage. There was Pura Foods and Pura Westerham, Bibbys, Peerless Refining, Loders and Nucoline, Loders and Crooklaan, Van Den Burgh and Jurgens, Kraft, Premier Brands, Jarmac Oleochemicals, David Kerfoot, Chambers and Fargus, Croda Oils, LD Industries and probably dozens more, before we mention the RVO and tallow that filled us up between jobs

A couple of Oldies

That would be Intermol Johnnie

Cargill Intermol, then SVG Intermol and now owned by ED & F Man I think

I hope Bill Clowes will allow this photo to stay as it was an important company for backloads for many people

Hi Malc, that is the ones when you were at “Brennans” if you you knew “Keith” a ginger haired lad from Sheffield he worked for “Intermol” for about 18 months when he was on “Sykes” it was spot hire but they had him on regular for that time.
cheers Johnnie

Sorry johnnie. I never worked for Bill Brennan but did work with most of his drivers as we were all chasing the same oil :stuck_out_tongue: but Intermol had depots in London. Hull. Liverpool. Glasgow and Bristol I think.

Woodbrow started to do spot hire work for Intermol Hull which was then taken on by a Woodbrow fitter when he and his father began operating their own vehicles. I believe he still works for them during the mollasses season.

As this thread is about tankers, the reason Intermol fitted in with our other work was that our company got a couple of tankers with cargo pumps from a Kent hire company. AGENT Tank Hire and we were working out of Slough with a SUGAR company which was my baby at the time. Great people to deal with and it all started after one of the company directors followed a Woodbrow tank going to Mars Slough.

Another Intermol motor, are they still around, presume like the others they disappeared and under another name now ?

the intermol trucks run under the banner of shirley’s transport now . Liverpool ,Avonmouth hull ,and Grangemouth as still going strong .tipped and loaded out of grangemouth on Thursday and will be tipping in svg Liverpool on Monday .and it’s now called west way terminals .well this week may be something else next week

Put some pics on the compaines from Stoke page,My dad drove for B.E.T. on tanks also in his time drove for TYBURNS at there Asthon-in- Makerfield depot (no pics) and Horrocks which was in Irlam if any one has any photos of any of the above ■■?
