does anyone have any pictures of John Forman Ltd who had depots at Gateshead,Middlesbrough, & Hull. i worked at the Gateshead depot in early 70,s. There were about 20 tankers based there & a parcel van fleet. The bulk of the tankers were green on spot hire but 6 of them were painted black & on contract hire to Lenings chemicals which became Rohm & Haas @ the Jarrow plant, i know they were taken over by P & O & then probably TDG. It just seems strange that there are no pictures of any of there Volvos when there fleet between the depots must have totalled 100 trucks.

I remember John Forman Ltd,they ran several wagons out of BP Saltend Hull.
Not my photos.F7 in P and O livery,AEC MK5 Mammoth Major green livery.

thanks for the John Forman pics

IIRC the “TC” notice on the front of the vehicles (indicating Torrey Canyon) allowed the trucks involved in this to disregard the normal driving hours in place at that time.

Low-roof with rack/ladders etc, love the look. Makes a change from Globetrotters/Toplines etc, looks really smart with a Tanker!

Sorry got it wrong, cafe on right not left leaving Cadishead. There was another further back towards Eccles on left towards W,ton just after going under M63 (it was M63 then) in a big lay-by.Anybody remember it?Maybe it’s still open.

Yes I remember the one in the lay by it was called The Caracafe if I remember rightly and it was a good un

I used to cart oils to Buchannans at Renfrew, and you could be in there all day sometimes.I remember one AS Jones driver who I met regularly for some strange reason. His name was Big Bert Smith and he was very loud, although a perfect gentleman.I recall once we were both at Stokenchurch and went for a pint.Bert had the pub in uproar. The barman didn’t know whether he had the ■■■■■ or the heartburn.I also used to bump into Bert at Lesmahagow and sometimes Dover Corner. What a guy’

That’s the one bigpeter, the Cara cafe.I’ve had some dodgy nights out on there as it was off the main drag and wasn’t the road all cobbled?
It was in the 60s and 70s so I could be wrong.

I am always wary of telling any alledged stories about Ron Hennessey. I sort of imagine someone creeping up behind, and whispering, are you sure you want to type that? :stuck_out_tongue:

The Volvos always had 2 orange flashing ADR lights on the roof and looked like they were painted in Hammerite.

I just remembered OB Transport of Ellesmere Port

What happened to Fearn tankers, Hoyland , Barnsley, i think, Green, & red volvo,s, then later M A N, well kept fleet in the late 70’s-- early 80’s?
