Before the button on Dukes, the lit or not headboard was enough to let people know that you were in a hurry…
@dave docwra, with you on that mate, but don’t think I ever had time to look at the headboard light to see whether it was lit or not 
I did 3 tours for Dukes from 1980 - 1999 and they were the best years in transport I’ve ever had. Drove some great trucks and earnt some good money, was never told to do anything illegal and at one point when I was having a clash of personality with the Manchester Depot manager, Bertie Marshall came over from Portadown to ostensibly to discipline and sack me, because I was a smart arse the Manchester Depot manager, Stephen Dunne, and the UK Area Manager, John Godfrey, both got sacked because they were both totally incompetent and I was allowed to go on my merry way. Left not long after but went back a few years later running up to Stranraer/Cairnryan overnight from Huddersfield and then ran out of Heysham with a 4x2 143 topline just picking up slack from different depots. Best company I’ve ever worked for and would go back if they ever started again, good days

Also would never have beans for breakfast or sit in a truck that wasn’t a scania some are known to wear a lot of gold on their fingers and neck
