Thanks for all your replys, was secretly hoping for some kind of magic trick to turn me into the king of reversing but as it is, i’ve been ‘swan necking’ all along Oh well i guess the only thing that brings improvement is practice, practice, practice and time. Still, i cant be doin that bad, i havent managed to hit anything yet but no doubt my time will come, and when it does i’ll tell you all and then patiently await the ■■■■ taking
I think the magic trick is already there for most of us, it is just that I have never heard of the term along with many others. So to reverse a trailer in a tight spot you need to swan neck
I think it must come naturally like riding a motorcycle, no one shows you how to turn a bike, but you learn that by turning the front wheel to the left the bike will go right, and vice versa. So I suppose it is like reversing an artic, turn the steering the opposite way to the direction you need to go
The name for the above is counter steering and everyone does it or they would crash!

I practised using better spatial awareness to always consider what my trailer door was pointing at to get a bit better at the going backwards lark. A ■■■■ good look into the slot on the way in saves getting flanned thirty seconds later.
Well as usual i am prob wrong but i thought “swan necking” was whilst driving forward to turn left or right you went past the junction with the cab and “swan necked” it into the road thus avoiding clipping the kerb/traffic lights etc with the rear of trailer. it made the turn easier to do.

That was my original thought when I saw the title of this thread, they call that button hooking over here.
I can’t see how reversing can be set into catagories, you either position yourself so that you go back in a completely straight line, or you put on & take lock off all the way through the manouvere, lots of lock to lock on bad days & gentle corrections on good days, sometimes it would be a goose neck, a swan neck, a coiled snake, sometimes it would be a dog’s dinner
