In 1981 Sainsbury’s opened their distribution depot on Stakehill Industrial Estate at Middleton near Manchester. It supplied all the supermarkets in the North of England for almost 20 years until its closure in February 2001.

Didn’t Lowfield Distribution have that Sainsbury contract Paul ? I know Glass Glover had the Middleton 1 and 2 sites for Tossco,sorry Tesco.

Yes they sure did.
I started there in 1981 when Lowfields got the contract and was there until it closed in 2001 when all operations were transferred over to the much larger purpose built RDC at Haydock.
During that time we were taken over a couple of times in the end it was operated by Tibbett & Britten
