Back to the point of this thread, are you still driving for Spar? if so I can understand why you are disillusioned, I did a few shifts for them some years ago and walked after 3 days

Yes I am. Planning on doing so until I can find something better to replace it. Which doesn’t look like it’s going to be any time soon.

Well don’t lose heart, they are a ■■■■ of a firm to work for, hence why they are always looking for drivers

Back in my day ( yes I know,I know !!  ),most lorry driving jobs involved doing a fair bit of work, nowadays it seams to be the other way round.

I don’t mind work but what annoys me are these ■■■■■■■ in the shops that stand there and watch you unload 7 cages by yourself, once your done they then decide to spend an extra 30 minutes checking every item before you go. They act like their the only shop you deliver to a day. I don’t understand why the cages aren’t dropped off and left for the staff to unload.

2 of my drops last week had 11 cages each one and I had to park about 60 metres away from the shop. The shop had about 10 staff in there and most of them weren’t doing anything. Not one of them could come out and help me drag the cages over… Instead they had 3/4 of them unloading one cage… Not that it mattered as they kept the cages till the next delivery.

Please don’t think I was “having a go” at you,I wouldn’t want to be in the job now.As regards not getting any help to unload at shop deliveries it was always the same, very few willing to help, though there were some notable exceptions.

Most of that is due to H&S, I got the same treatment when I did work for Co-op. Although for me, most of the store staff would take the cage inside as soon as it was off the tailgate. Some stores were better than others, some would help you wrestle the things off the wagon with you while others would just stand there, ■■■ in hand with a “are you done yet” look on their face.

Didn’t think you were having a go at all . Just didn’t want to sound lazy but things in the above I’ve explained really annoy me. I’ve had 85 year old people hold up traffic for me without me asking and direct me when they see I’m lost and yet some 30 year old person who hasn’t even been in the country for 6 years can’t be bothered to help as he needs to “sit” behind the counter just in case a customer comes in. ■■■■■■■.

The normal excuse is “we’re not insured to work outside the shop” yeah right, they’d rather stand there and watch you struggle like a ■■■■ trying to push a cage load of pop up a cobbled street, it does wind you up that

I agree re the co-op. At one store I actually said to them “do you want me to put it on the shelf for you too?”. SIX of them watching me struggle to move full cages across the uneven car park
